I just put a new cd player in 79 308. I used the wiring method of the old alpine that I took out. Getting static on all radio stations. Can anybody help?

    Thank in advance-Bob

Not sure, but that might mean it is not grounded properly. Hopefully others will comment.

    You've checked the obvious, right?

Is the antenna lead plugged in to the back of the new radio?

Re check all your connections, not just the antenna. And check it on the other end too. See if you may have inadvertantly yanked the antenna lead off while re-installing. Also look to see if there are any bare wires grounding the antenna.

I had weak reception(mostly static) on my radio and when I checked, the antenna was shorted to the car body. (installed improperly, simple fix)
To check the antenna, unplug it from the back of the radio and use an ohmmeter from the antenna to chassis ground, it should show "open" NO ohms resistance.
    good luck !
