    The last 7 digits of my 550 Maranello is 118690.
    Can anyone tell me when the car was produced, and / or what more info that is hidden behind the numbers ?
    Regards
    Anders

    Hello Anders,

    I can't tell you exactly when 118690 was produced, but it should be around about November 1999. The number on its own doesn't tell you very much. The full 17 digit VIN says a bit more about the car but won't tell the owner (you in this case) anything you don't already know.

    Anders...

    European cars do not have dates of production on them like US cars. There's really only one sure-fire way to find out - and that's to call Ferrari and get a Certificate of Authenticity. However, since my boss has so much information, he estimates that your car was made in either November or December of 1999. We know that 119475, a US-model 360 Modena F1, was made in December, 1999. We also know that 118484, a US-model 550 Maranello, was made in November, 1999. Your car falls between those two and was most likely made in November or December.

    US-spec Ferraris have what we call a 'data plate' - usually on the driver's side door jamb - with the month and year the car was produced. Unfortunately, Ferrari doesn't do that for European cars.

    We know that 123776, a US-model 360 Modena, was made in March of 2001. We also know that 123074, a US-model 550 Barchetta, was made in February of 2001. Your car falls between those two cars and was most likely made in February or March of 2001.

    the other info in the VIn is also interesting, starting from the left, example based on my 550:
    Z = manufactured in Italy
    FF = Ferrari
    Z means engine =550
    S = safety system type
    49 = body type
    A = LH drive USA
    X = check letter or number 0-9 to see if VIn is valid
    Y= year 2000
    O= Maranello plant
    6 digit production number
    Regards,
    Ron
