The photos make the color look a little off. It's closest to this picture. I'll post some more late in the week as the car should be all buffed out by then. Delphais is really doing a nice job. The buffing is taking out all the orange peel, you can see how nice the lines are on the door they repaired, and how great the paint looks once it's buffed out. DM Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well........... No....... It also will not resemble anything that has come out of the GM factory in the past 30 years. DM
Car is buffed out, it'll get one more buff after assembly is finished. doors are hung, some of the chrome is on, headlights. We're still looking for a couple of things, but... probably 2 weeks till delivery back to Algar!!! Here are some shots... End of the week the Dino should head over to Algar to get the motor popped back in. Just finishing the little stuff now, like putting the whole interior back in and the windshields, etc. But, when I saw it today, we're close, and I'm gettin' antsy. told Mike at Delphais the days of once a week phone calls are over. He's gonna hear from me about every twenty minutes!! I am really pumped, it looks great. Even the headliner, which we re-sprayed, turned out great. Here are a couple of pix from today. Dave: Looks great! Dusty, incomplete and in the body shop never do a car justice. Can't wait for photos post-detail, in the sunshine and back at the house. Keep us posted.
I'm sure this car is the one that was sitting in a parking lot near me for a few years. Any chance you could ask if it came from Allentown? Thanks for the updates too, i can't wait to see the finished product. Reading? I hope so
Isn't that what got poor Dave into this mess in the first place? A detail job that went somewhat awry?
Chris. It was owned by the same guy for the last ten years or so, sat in a garage for the last two or three before I got it, over three years ago. So, it's unlikely that it's the car in question. And yes, it will be ready for Reading. It should be rolling down the highway in the next couple of weeks. DM
Well, yes and no.... the detailer did start the problem, but...... The only detailer whoss gonna touch the car going forward is me. I might let the body shop guys buff it up each spring, but that's it. DM
Dave, what did you use to spray on the headliner???? Your car looks awesome. A definite platinum at Reading... I'll put in a good word for you with Pietro Castiglioni. Cheers Pietro Di Leonardo Glendale AZ
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/yourautotrim-store/semdye.html SEM Colorcoat $12 a can, plus you need a can of the prep for about another $12. Worked great. Didn't fill the perforation holes, looks good as new!! Used it on the Visors, too. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Chris, I'm sure you were referring to the Maserati Merak on the back of the trailer? I think Dave thought you meant the Dino.....dunno, but there might be some confusion...
Ahhh............. Early morning cobwebs led to my confusion. I'm waiting to go to the hospital for some knee repairs right now, been up since 4:30. Chris, that's possible. I'm not sure of the origins of the car. But I did meet the owner. Guy in his late 50's maybe early 60's. Second owner, has every record for the car since new, all books, tools, repairs, even the original ad for the car when he bought it with his notes scribbled on it. Although, the rest of the car story is the same. Sat for the last ten years, rolled out in the last few weeks. Hasn't been driven in 10 yrs. But, once Mike replaced the hoses and fluids, motor turned right over. Ran well. It's been for a 40 mile jaunt. It's gonna get a fresh coat of paint, some rust repair, and a freshened interior, then it's off to ebay. Would make a fun driver for someone for probably under $20K. Dave M.
Dave, what color? Sailcloth white or super White or... Thanks Pietro Good luck with your knee repairs.
Oh geez. I was afraid you'd ask that. I bought both whites and let the body shop decide which was correct. I don't know which one they used, but I'll find out for you. Dave
Well, off it went to Algar today. Paint looks great, seams are great, all looking good. I pity Tony at Algar, who's going to get a million calls a day from me now, bugging him to finish. Love the view from the rear three-quarter shot, it is very flattering to the body lines. You must be beaming! Hate to be picky, but it jumped out at me with that very cool license plate - are you really going to have a black license plate frame when the rest of the trim accents on the car are chromed silver color? .
