Well, I got into the 5 year economics co-op at Drexel. Has anybody heard anything about the LeBow business school? Can anybody comment on the school? I'd love to hear any comments on Drexel as I'd really like to go.

Pros: I live about 40 minutes away, so it's close.
I like Philly-- It's getting pretty nice these days.
Sounds like a great way to get REAL experience, rather than 4 years
    of relatively nothing.

Cons: I don't really know enough about the school to assess it as a whole

If I get into Colgate, I will go there. If I don't get into Colgate, but do get into Boston University, it will be a toss-up with Drexel. Again, I'd really appreciate any comments you guys have.

    Thanks!
    Joe

Well, im a business major at drexel, so I guess im the one to talk to. I'll pm ya my aim so i can talk to ya a bit more, but its not a bad school. The business program isnt great, so if ya get into BU or BC I would definately take those (also the price is much higher here). Im not a big fan of the 5 year coop, I would reccomend a 4 year coop (easy switch) and dont pay drexel 30 grand to "find" you a job for a year. The school itself is a real pain in the ass, with more red tape than you could imagine, and also it is undergoing a lot of change, which the advisors dont tend to catch onto quick enough making them essentially useless (lots and lots of wrong information). This is countered by students being so annoyed at administration that we know everything they do, so we essentially advise ourselves. If ya get a scholarship, thats a big plus (reason I am here), but if you get in honors.. apply for housing early or you will get screwed. Probably more negative of a response here than the reality, I mean compared to most schools its not bad, and the coop is helpful in finding jobs, but most people at Drexel wish they were not at Drexel. (Also realize you dont get summers off here, so thats something to keep in mind).

I got my BSEE from Drexel in the '70s, when it somewhat resembled elements of the film "Real Genius". ;) (It had just transitioned from "Drexel Institute of Technology" to "Drexel University".)

There was the time we filled the high voltage lab with lightning, the time we pulled half of the philadelphia power grid from 60 cycle to 3 cycle, the numerous transformers blown up, the ham shack in the rafters of the main building (complete with antenna tower on the roof), the voice controlled wheelchair carrying the keg through the halls, using high voltage knife switches for cigarette lighters, and the endless fun of telling freshmen that the little corridor lights in Disque Hall were warnings if the basement nuclear reactor went critical. ;) Tons of fun.

Yes, you're on a 12 month program -- no summer vacations. But the co-op experience is really worthwhile, in engineering. (I'm appalled at the lack of diagnostics skills among the young products of "conventional" colleges.)

They charge extra now for placement? Their placement services used to be free, and usable for your entire career. But then, they had a limited selection, too.

This was not glorified post-HS day care. Half the freshmen class failed the basic literacy test and had to take remedial English. Two thirds of the freshman class didn't make it to sophomore. They'd let you buy your way in, then flunk you out in a hurry. (That subsidized the education for those who could make the grade.)

And you had to steer your own education. Drexel is (or was) a private college: they're in the business of selling classes. It's up to you to buy the ones that will build you a career.

The business school was fairly large, even back then. But all the engineers really knew about the business school was that the guys that couldn't hack the math for engineering wound up transferring to business. ;)

Out of about 430-odd EE enrollees (some of us very odd), we graduated 55. (Curiously, out of the five of us who passed the Calc II final while drunk, four of us graduated. Coincidence?)

I go to Cal Poly San Luis, as far as a I know, the 3rd biggest engineering school in CA. I think we actually have the biggest undergraduate business school in CA. And we all know why it got so big...:)
