That's a piranha. I'd almost rather see the Great White. As for pictures #5 and #6... what the hell is that thing? Edit: And what am I looking at in the last picture?
5 and 6 are a lamprey eel, I think. Sorry, but it's not a piranha. Not sure exactly what it is, but it's one of those rarely-ever-seen things that lives 'way down below where there's no light hardly. Neil
Great pictures, Steve. I have just changed my laptop background to the Great White. It may have to be removed - it is quite disturbing...
Ok but what is the last photo..the one with the brown rotted teeth..& it looks like a hand is holding it open.....
I doubt it. At over 36,000 feet below sea level at the deepest point on Earth, even if there was any light, I kind of get the impression taking so clear a picture of an Angler Fish wouldn't be a simple thing to do. That, and the pictured fish doesn't have the characteristic 'bioluminescent protrusion' (quoted from marianatrench.com) dangling from its head...
It is. Barbeled Dragonfishes (Stomiidae) http://filaman.ifm-geomar.de/identification/specieslist.cfm?famcode=91&areacode=&spines=&fins= or Viperfish http://www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fishfacts/fish/csloani.htm I think it is the latter. As highlighted in the below image, it looks to have it (bioluminescence), and I believe that fish's is simply cropped out (snare). Image Unavailable, Please Login
That last one that Fan512bbi posted looks disgusting, with the rotten teeth. It looks like a honeycomb or something. When I first saw it, I thought it was a pig's mouth.
As I said above, I believe it looks like a baboon. Note the teeth design, as well as the shape of the roof of the mouth. Also, the very thick tongue. I recognized it later since I watched a special on baboons, in which I got to see the inside of the mouth of one, and recognized the teeth and ridges. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Um are you serious? That looks nothing like the posted creature... If it is a Barbeled dragonfishes, then it has a snare (see this link: http://filaman.ifm-geomar.de/Photos/PicturesSummary.cfm?ID=2714&what=species ), which is most likely cropped out. If it is a viperfish, I do not think it does. Judging from the teeth design, it looks more like a viperfish, but the head looks more like a dragonfish. It really is semantics anyway, both are closely related and the name is interchangale to a degree. Regardless though, it is not a angler.
