    I've just managed to crawl through the wheelarch on my '89 T, and taken a very poor picture of my alternator. The raised lettering on the side resembles a slightly abstract ND (!?). Does anyone know if this is a Nippon Denso unit ?

    Thanks Brian. Somewhat surprised as I couldn't see it listed in the history file.
    Now all I need to do is find out why the red Batt light is flashing when driving. Battery itself is fine.

    Bad ground from the battery, or the VR is letting go are the likely causes.

    Most were installed under warranty. Don't know how it is handled in your country but here it is required under federal law for warrany repairs to be processed and records be kept and copies given to the owner just as though it was paid for by the owner.

    Yes it is a Denso unit. I had mine rebuilt locally for less than $200

    That's a good deal !
    Are you aware of anyone manufacturing stable Voltage Regulators for the ND unit. (Think mine is a 105A)
    I've heard that the standard ND VR's can be temperamental, and I certainly wouldn't consider anything from China.
    Any pointers to sourcing would be much appreciated.

    The first owner in '89 was a UK newspaper baron, and was technically a company car. I think the recall piece of paper/invoice must have floated into the corporate ether, or wastepaper bin !

    I think the part number we used in mine was a IN220. I posted it somewhere in a thread when I had it rebuilt.

    Thanks. Who manufactured the IN220 VR, and have your alternator problems ceased since installation ?

    No more alternator problems. Transpo IN220 if I remember correctly.

    Thanks Frank. Seems heat/VR are the achilles heel. Looking at also getting some air duct into Alt area. Sure gets warm down there on the track.

    the later 308's had a cover with some flex duct on them for cooling , if you have the factory cover for the alternator you could probably rig something up or give a sheetmetal guy a good place to start.
