    Hi guys!

Just got a Mondial T Cabrio. When I checked the car out, everything was working...but now the dash switch to open the rear trunk doesn't work.

Think this is a fuse issue? broken switch? larger electronic issue? Trunk issue? Although I am able to open everything else as well as manually open the trunk.

    Thanks!

The switch sometimes sticks in the on position, this causes the trunk solenoid to overheat, melt down and blow the fuse. The solenoid is located in the left rear of the trunk under the trim. Look and see if the windings look melted. Check for power at the solenoid with a meter or test light while someone operates the switch. The switch could also be faulty.

If the solenoid is bad, I hope that you are sitting down, the last new one that we bought was around $800! You might be able to take the old one apart and have it fixed/rewound.

Motob is spot on. The smell from a fried solenoid is quite strong, and this happened to us in the Alps last year. Without such a smell you may just have a blown fuse, or panel toggle switch.
Ferrari have a "modded" solenoid unit, which last time I checked was £550 GBP.
You may want to grease that pull cable and use it for a while yet.

Thanks! I assume the trim you are talking about is the panel that faces the engine compartment and is held by 2 black plastic screws.

There is alot of little things there...which is the solenoid??...lol

No, that is the wrong trim panel. What you are seeing there are the two control units for the fuel injection system, the control units for the slow down warning lights (catalyst overheat) and the main and fuel pump relays.

The solenoid for the trunk lock is located just forward of the left rear taillight. remove the covers for the tail lights and the trim at the rear. You can follow the mechanical release cable from the trunk latch back to the solenoid. It is very large, mabye 3"x3"x3", looks like a spool of wire mounted in a square steel bracket.

thank you ..found it. Check the power to the solenoid and there is none at all. I imagine the dash switch is alot cheaper?
