Just tried them out; I had my buddy hold one at his house then I just drove around town until they gave out. They work really well for up to a mile and a half, after that the communication breaks down completely. Also keep in mind that the radios weren’t fully charged, I was in a pretty congested area (a lot of businesses, traffic, buildings) and I’m not sure if the channels we chose affected the distance in anyway but I used whatever was pre-programmed. Overall, I was happy with the Motorola sx 700’s; I think they’ll work for my purpose. After looking around in stores I ended up getting them online at http://www.bhphotovideo.com for about $65 with shipping. I ordered them at 3pm and got them at my door the next day at 10 am. I later found then for $54 dollars at costco.com. I also used the Motorola 53727 earbud with the push to talk microphone which I wasn’t a big fan of. The sound comes through great but the button is in an awkward spot so I kept having to search for it, plus I couldn’t use the VOX feature cause well like I said before it’s a push to talk earbud. Anyway, that’s where I’m at how about you guys.

    Thanks for the writeup, Ortiz.....

Sounds like they'll work for me, too. I think I am going this route with perhaps adding the longer antenna - and how can you go wrong for the price!?!
