Maybe we should have a poll on exhaust manifolds ...........how many people have exhaust manifolds without heat shields (be it stock or aftermarket) and if anyone suffered any heat related failures ?
Our headers are fairly new, they've only been around a year but people have put miles on them and they've been used on the track. Not one header failure or engine failure because of the headers have happenned to my knowledge. If heatshields are that big of a concern I'll make some calls and see what it'll take to get them added as an option. We did the R&D around May of last year. I'll call the fab tommorow morning and get information on all the testing that was performed and post it on here. Don't recall it off the top of my head but I'll have the answer for you in the morning
Bandaids meaning extra heat shielding where needed, certainly not the product itself. That is an interesting thought that the OEM wrapping keeps too much heat in. I guess that the real thing to debate is what should the headers be coated or not coated in: A) Nothing B) Silver C) Z Coat (Jet Hot) Ceramic-Comp D) Shroud/Wrapping...OEM - Tubi E) Exposed areas heat shielded. Which areas and how much? F) A combination of previous
Total with shipping was $5200. When I called them they said they couldn't sell them until they got C.A.R.B. certification, but my mechanic knows some guys there and got a set 3 days after calling them. On a side note, anyone know anything about the silencer pipe that goes between the headers and muffler? Kreissieg has one for $2500 that replaces this without the silencers... Would like to get that, but $2500 seems like a lot for a short tube. Feel like taking on another R&D job Kevin? -R Image Unavailable, Please Login
Robin, I have the pipe on it's way to me as we speak from Kreis-sieg. I ordered it for a customer on here and realized he was talking about something else. I can't cancel orders with Kreis-sieg so I'm stuck stocking it. I owe you a favor anyways since I couldn't get your headers in time. If you want to give me a ring I can give you special pricing on them once they get here. It's also for the 5.2 and not the 2.7 so it will fit your car. As far as me taking it on, I've considered it, but first we have to make 348 manifolds and exhaust system. Then I want to mess with a 355 exhaust system or 360 exhaust system. If the demand was there, I'd do it, but I don't have the time to market something that only appeals to a small market of people, especially when something is already being produced. BTW Tubi headers look great Robin. They're one of our competitors that I will admit make an extremely nice unit.
Talked to the fab, he did not test the OE units, but he said the NAP units had an approx 13% reduction after heatwrap and 46% after ceramic coating. If someone can figure out how much of a difference the heatshields make, we could compare. Some information on the coating we use from JH: Sterling extends header life dramatically, often by 20 times or more in street applications up to 1,300°F. Sterling reduces header-surface temperatures by over 50%. Sterling cuts engine bay heat, saving you money on plugs, wires, fan motors, water pumps and other heat-sensitive parts. Sterling boosts power by 3% or more on muscle engines. Sterling shines with the best look yet in high-temp, high tech. I also have seen engine fires that people claimed were from the stock units. At this time we are researching having heatshields offered as an option. But it's not a priority. It may cost more time and mone then it's worth and to date I've only had 4 people inquire about it. I want to be able to make everyone happy with these units but I have to be reasonable. If anyone has other suggestions or questions please feel free to ask. If you feel an answer was too broad I can look into anything further. Regards, Kevin
Odd. I didn't get it for some reason. I'll check again just to make sure but you can PM your # and I'll return your phone call. Please let me know what time is appropriate to call you. I'm usually around from 8:00am-12:00am so I can call at anytime.
Hot damn, consider it sold assuming we're talkign about the same thing: -R Image Unavailable, Please Login
That is the pipe correct. If you give me a ring at 405-410-8149, I'll give you the exact details on pricing. I can only discount Kreis-sieg 10% to the public and the discount is much larger then that. Regards, Kevin
