Again on the news, they are looking into F1 for singapore again...wonder if they can push it through this time (together with IR's and such)...they could actually remake singapore into an entertaiment hub?

Unlikely, doesn't make any sense to have another F1 circuit within 1000km radius. I believe the FIA body or whoever is in charge won't approve unless there's a big carrot dangling in front of them. We're not like Monaco, a tiny country with tax concession, vibrant lifestyle & entertainment. Perhaps, we can hold other class of GT races attracting smaller independant teams but more active all year round. Fong should be very familiar.

But then again that'll probably be deem as "2nd class", get mocked by our neighbour & we know our govt. likes to be no1.

I would vote to have one here & it'll be a weekly track meets just 30mins drive away :) That'll create many more businesses, tourist money & not to mention the multi million project tenders.

I have some old photos of S'pore GP from 1960/70s along Upp Thomson Rd & will post later when I activate my account.

The problem isnt whether Singapore has the capacity to do it, but if they want to do it.
I foresee that the biggest barrier is that Singapore's "in charge" is likely to focus on the upcoming entertainment projects. I seriously doubt the government has the ability juggle both the casino and a F1 race. Imagine having to deal with people on either side Casino(s) and Racetrack. That would sure mean alot of letters in the forum.

Yes, in terms of incoming revenue for hotels, shippers, logistics and such, people in these lines would be totally for F1. We have to remind ourselves that it is possible that only a small percentage of the current population are into motorsports. If you want to test this theory, have Star Sports cut a football game halfway like they did to our qualifying at Bahrain, you will see where the majority stand in the other demographics.
F1 alone will not be able to win the hearts of Singaporeans. A motorsports complex with key focus on automobile, motorcycle and prehaps some other form of sports(indoor cycling, rollerblade racing). With that, prehaps we may be able to tap into a bigger pool of resources.
Maybe an advance driving school where we can school those people on CTE why they shouldnt lane hog.. and how to drive?

It is unlike F1 Powerboat where it invovle throwing some horsepower onto the Singapore River. A street circuit would require alot of work, modifications and safety changes(insert some government contracts).

Now, if Singapore Pools would be allowed to engage in a form of betting ala Fantasy F1, that may turn it around.

I found this article abt it .. talking about a street circuit (marina south perhaps?) doesnt sound too viable though.

I'm not sure but I guess it might cost half a billion to build a worldclass track/stadium including the land? I remember the giant digital screen we see during National Day parades costs multi million & is rented. My friend is the architect in charged of renovating the National stadium now, I can ask. I'm sure it'll be millions alone per year just to maintain the equipment & track. Unless there's a company huge enough to keep it filled with activities every weekend, it'll be another white elephant. I remembered an accountant who worked out the P/L for our Esplanade & it takes 60yrs(correct me) for them to recoup the cost provided all the seats are sold-out every night!

I concur on the driving school & I'll be a student.

Yes, betting should be legalised like horse-racing & S league. In line with the Casino and policies, another tax incentive to recover the cost.

An outfit like Esplanade draws alot more sponsors than motor racing.
Major coporate entities would more likely to associate themselves with the Durian than a pool of land associated with people who go round and round it at speed.
    Its just more classy. ;)

I was there 2 weeks ago for Lorin Maazel, his one night fee is in the hundreds of thousands in Euros..But then again, MS is also in another unearthly pay scale..:)

There isnt a lack of sponsors, but legislation has already "burnt" them out of the picture for any form of advertisment.
So who do we go to? We cant dig into the pockets of Central G? The mass will never go for it? Privately owned? Thats the current talk about Tuas. But I am curious as to why such a facility has to be so hush hush...I would think most would be excited to annouce the possibility of such a future. Prehaps there is more than meets the eye.

Usually the goverments provide the land, so just have to factor in the cost of building a FIA track, figure upon 150mil to 200mil depending whos designing it and the seating capacity.

Its not difficult to get the funds, depends on who is doing the pushing. Too bad TG is more a poseur than a driver, if not well....knowing his style

I think if there's a possibility of a street circuit there is a good chance it may follow through...and it makes for good party atmosphere In fact I've always found the track/stadium rather boring to watch...better on TV....'driving' at the track is great though :)

There's quite a fair bit of reports on the newspaper these two days. Apparently, the Tuas one is already going to happen, shorter than 3km & does not comply to host F1 but likely Carrera Cup etc. Costs 20-30 million & rented land for 20yrs from JTC. While they're still exploring street circuit for F1 while Ernie Elccestone (FIA owner) has hinted that anyone can contact him since they're looking into 2 more races instead of the yearly 18. Costs about US$20 million to host one race, yikes!

Maybe one day there'll be one in India as well.

PALMDALE, Calif. - Four burgers at his neighborhood Burger King cost George Beane a whopping $4,334.33.

Beane ordered two Whopper Jr.s and two Rodeo cheeseburgers when he pulled up to the drive-through window last Tuesday. The cashier, however, forgot that she'd entered the $4.33 charge on his debit card and punched in the numbers again without erasing the original ones — thus creating a four-figure bill.

The electronic charge went through to George and Pat Beane's Bank of America checking account and left the couple penniless. Their mortgage payment was due and they worried checks they had written would bounce, Pat Beane said.

"We were thinking, 'No, not now!'" she said of the overcharge.

Terri Woody, the restaurant manager, said Burger King officials tried to get the charge refunded. But the bank said the funds were on a three-day hold and could not be released, Pat Beane said.

The hold is designed to prevent customers from spending money that no longer is available in their accounts and to let the bank confirm a transaction is legitimate before transferring funds, said Bank of America supervisor Joel Solorio.

Burger King did not charge the Beanes for their meal, and the couple got their $4,334.33 back on Friday.

"For those three days, those were the most expensive value burgers in history," Pat Beane said

How's the race car hunt going? Heard from KH that you guys are still looking for one - but that was a few weeks ago. As you know, there are a few Cup cars available in the market. You'd need one of those to hound us - we'd leave a RS in the dust (10 sec a lap diff on full slicks between the Cup cars and the race prepped RS that ran last year).
