Just bought a 308 I need some help!

Post the VIN, where you bought it from, and post a few pictures, and I think you might be suprised what the people here can dig up.

Do you have any service records? (Usually you want the recent ones to confirm the car has been properly serviced; sometimes you can get a whole stack going back to the delivery date.)

You can also search on the last five digits of the VIN on this site.

 

You list "dallasroadster" on your profile. I went to that website, are you a dealer?

 

If it's a local car, call Norwood Performance at 972-831-8111 and see if they know the car.

Since it's a US Spec car, FoNA should be able to supply records of all service done by any of their dealerships. Give them a call.

 

Really? That may only apply if the dealership is still in business.... I tried to get FNA to do some research on my car and they were useless. Nice but useless all the same. My car came from American Service Center in Va. I went to them to enquire about service records... they had long since disposed of them. FMOW in Va who bought the Ferrari franchise (and had serviced the car a couple of times) also was of little help. Is there some secret handshake or a "person of interest" I may need to talk to to help fill in the gaps?

 

Verell, just curious, have you ever done that? I'm just asking because of all the years I spent in dealers we never sent FNA service records except warranty claim oriented (and they will never provide that information). And we were never asked to provide them.

With one exception the dealers are franchises and their records are THEIR records.

Only once have I heard of FNA getting involved in providing information of a car involved in a sales transaction and that was the case of a fake GTO in Europe. FNA sent a representative to Nor Cal to lay eyes on the real car for verification.

 

I tried to get info from FNA. With the vin the only info I got confirmed the model, year, and color. No service records or history.

 

Thought I just saw this 308 listed on eBay a few minutes ago...think it was the same Serial No. and red with cream / tan interior -- 1980 model IIRC ??

Just went back to eBay to confirm, and the listing is gone. Buy It Now was something around high 20's ??

 

A DMV buddy got back to me late last night via email. Your car was sold in '99 to a dealer. The car was stripped by an organized crime group in San Antonio and the group bought it back for $500 at a police auction, re-assembled it and pawned it off to a dealer for $5K. He is not sure why the registration did not have a salvage title, but the DMV will probably recall the registration at some time soon to correct it and get it back in your hands. Knowing this, my friend had to turn this new find in to his manager at the DMV center he works for in Sacramento. THAT'S going to be a real bummer! Call my friend, Tim Stevens at the DMV on Monday. Back in '01 when I bought my car & subsequently learned how important service records were, I called FNA, was directed to a very nice lady in technical service. She told me something like:
"If you'd bought a North American spec car, we could have provided a full set of service records. However, it's an Euro model & FNA doesn't have records on them."

She did take my VIN, contact the factory, & send me a fax giving me the date my car was mfg'd.

Somewhere I should still have my eMAIL exchanges with her, but a quick look didn't turn them up.
