Many years ago, I worked with a guy who was the manager of a large department at my company. Most of the folks in his particular dept. were female. One day, I was in his office and this fairly attractive gal walked by and he looked at her kind of funny and I asked him "What's up...is she new or something?" He looked at me and said that when she was last in his office, he said:

"Don't worry, I'm not going to do anything to you...just show me where your dirty clothes are."

I laughed so hard I hurt.

 

Your'e underrating your experiences. I'd say this one can stand up to any on this thread!

Sounds like a Boomslang snake is the quickest way to convert homo sapiens to Cream of Wheat.

When I was in training, I had to do a rotation at a state hospital for the mentally retarded. There were several children there. One had a cleft palate so bad that it completely obliterated the orbital socket such that you could see the inside of the child's nose and the eye socket where the eye should have been. Another child, just a couple of beds down, had been born with hydrocephalus (water on the brain) but they never put a shunt in so his head weighted 70 pounds. The nurse that was showing me around patted the side of his head and it sounded like a water bed. The first night, when I got home, I started to vomit every time I thought of those poor children and their families. Oh, one other child was an Anacephalic (basically, they are born with no brain). Although these children almost always die in early infancy, this poor child did not. One of the clinical tests they do for this involves going into an unlighted room (like a storage or supply room) until your eyes adapt to the dark. Then, the nurse places a flashlight against the side of the child's head with a small, soft donut or cushion filling the gap between the light and the head. When the light is turned on, the child's head resembles a chinese lantern == hence the term they use -- chinese lantern. It lights up like that because there is no solid matter inside the baby's head to absorb the light rays. Since that rotation at the hospital, I have never been able to work with that population. Just can't do it.

 

Man, I was thinking sick or gross things, not things to make us cry... I haven't the heart to work with such children either, I get too emotional over such things.

I work for a Paper converter/rewinder. We also have a sheeting operation. I saw a guy get his right leg ripped off about four years in a Paper Bailer. I also saw a guy slice his finger off in the paper slitter on the sheeting size.
When the guy ripped his leg of...almost no blood. The finger, you would think we slaughtered cattle!

I did have the NOVA documentary on Forensics when I was a kid, where they have a 10-15 minute clip of a real autopsy.

Dead truck driver--head crushed by other truck's wheel.

I have dealt with multiple suicides, homicides, accidents and decomposition cases over my career. Most of this stuff does not bother me and I have frequently told my wife that I am the guy that can embalm an autopsied body in the afternoon then order a slab of ribs for dinner in the evening.

However the case that still haunts me was the suicide of a young man who laid his head on a train track and waited for its daily arrival.

btw: It was earlier insinuated that you can get a mop and bucket and start a crime scene cleanup company. This is simply NOT true. These people are regulated by state and federal guidelines, they are insured and bonded and have to be versed in OSHA regulations regarding blood-borne pathogens, and sharps procautions etc, etc, etc.

 

We are currently replacing all the windows in a four story VA hospital. My guy's just finished the windows in the morgue. No bodies laying around but in plain sight many large glass containers with all sorts of inside body parts. It certainly made lunch time uncomfortable.

 

While interning at a plaintiffs firm, we had a client that was crushed (and survived) by some heavy steel pipe. needless to say they had to reconstruct his entire pelvis. The pictures of his crushed groin were unbearable...I had NO IDEA that it could actually look like a pancake...

Same firm, same summer, pictures of a lady who thought she could beat a speeding train @ an intersection in her 1988 Chevy Corsica (as it turns out, the crossing was not properly marked)...needless to say, when a TRAIN hits you, it does not matter whether you are wearing a seatbelt or not and the injuries are devastatingly gorey.

Saddest thing I ever saw was pictures of a toddler who was not properly restrained in her car seat...truck hits grandmothers car killing grandmother & ejecting child out of back window...all at highway speeds...all on a Louisiana highway.

 

I bet the poor marking was a gold mine deprite the fact she "thought she could beat a speeding train".

Years ago, I was working for a pool builder/service company, and it was the Springtime when pools got opened up for the season. Well, we had gotten a new client that was a friend of one of the bosses and the two service techs that went out to open the guy's pool up called me around 11 am to let me know what they had found. Apparently the guy's dog (German Shepherd) had gotten in the pool sometime over the winter, drowned and was never pulled out. The two service techs called me and told me that the dog was in the pool, dead and they wanted to know what to do next. I told them to leave the cover off the pool and just go on to the next job. When the boss got back from lunch, I told him about the guy's dog being in the pool and that I told the service guys to just go on to the next job. The boss then called his friend up and told him about the situation and strongly recommended that the pool be drained, acid washed, and then the new water be aggressively treated with chemicals for a couple of weeks. The guy was so cheap, and would not go for any of it!! The boss then told him to find another service company.

 

Somehow, this post is the "Gettysburg address" of this thread......Such a short treatise compared to the others, like it could have been simply jotted down on the back of an envelope, yet says it all.

 

All I ever saw was a whole lot of leftover blood on the subways tracks after they had just cleaned up a suicide.

 

Happened to a co-worker of mine when we were Trust Officers, whose job it is to settle deceased people's estates.

He went into the house of a person who had lived alone, and noticed a couple of walls covered in shelves filled with jars, which in turn were filled with.......hmmm, what IS that stuff? Let's open one up and see.

Turns out the owner didn't like to flush the toilet.

On another occasion, at university, the guys on the floor wanted to do a 'gross-out' Christmas present gift. I got a photocopy from the med library of a patient with elephantiasis (severe, severe enlargement) of the scrotum. Pretty gruesome.

wow, I just read through this entire thread without running to the bathroom to puke, I have a weak stomach and I am glad I have never seen anything like some of the things in this thread and I hope I never do though I do have a lot of years ahead of me.

 

After a firefight in Afghanistan, a Taliban guy laying flat out. It was almost like he had been posed. His brain was on the ground by his feet.

Full disclosure: It wasn't my firefight. I saw the photos when a Captain left his thumb drive behind at the base were I was deployed.

 

One of my kids (I teach SpEd kindergarten) came off the bus with a load in his shorts. While helping him shower off, he took his shirt off, which I didn't realize was filled in the back. He smeared poo from his crack to forehead, and couldn't have been happier about it.
