This is strange but I have an electric window that actually goes up too fast....This is not a joke and I would like to slow it down, I would like a suggestion on how I might slightly reduce the voltage to the motor.

Please remove your existing window motor, pack it up and Fedex it to me. I will exchange it for one of my '85 308QV window motors that will meet your requirements. Of the two motors I have, would you prefer excruciatingly slow or moderately slow? No charge!!

Paul what is the matter with you? A Ferrari window that is fast is a good thing. Please pass on the info as to how you got it to be "too fast".

    Paul,

Check with an electronics store or auto electrical repair shop. I don't know the DC equivalent of a variable AC motor controll. They are used on routers, fans all kinds of things. Surely, an electronics shop could find a variable dc motor controll suited for the dc amperage of the window motor. Pull the door panel, install the speed controll unit, adjust to suit, secure it, pop the door panel back on and enjoy the lack of speed??

    hth,
    chris

Are you sure the two motors+gearsets+drums+etc. are identical?

Is the current draw at "full speed" radically different for the two sides?

What he probably wants is a graduated speed controller: it's probably only too fast at the end, where he's trying to leave a small crack open at the top -- possibly for a battery tender wire.

A graduated speed controller would run the window full speed most of the traverse, but lower the speed at the limits; near the top and bottom. That would be trickier, using a position sensor to modulate the motor voltage and/or current.

But Hey; It's an older car. If the windows work at all, you're ahead of the game.

    Look on the bright side:
If it were British, you'd be using clothespins to hold the plastic window curtains in place. ;)

Hey, strange things can happen. I just took the JEEP down to Key West and back, and the darn thing averaged almost 270 MPG.
