My driver's side window is moving v-e-r-y slowly on my 1984 308. I was told I need a new motor but what are my choices? Do I need to go to the $$dealer$$ or are there aftermarket companies that make these small motors? Thanks, Dan

It probably not the electric motor itself giving you the trouble.

Do a search on "308 window grease" and read those 10 threads (and the threads referenced within) -- that will give you the necessary background for what might be involved (and the magnitude of the work if you're paying someone else to do the repair).

Do a search on this forum. One owner had a slick solution that seemed to work well.

I am sure that you will find that this is the mechanism not the motors.

I overhauled mine windows a couple of years ago - whilst I had the motors out my father took some 'end float' out of them by adding a shim but said that they were in fine fettle and sturdily built.
The usual cause of slow windows in these cars is that the grease has gone hard in the winding mechanism (it had in mine) - but it is not suprising considering it may have been there for 20+ years!

Great info and following the search link I immediately took the motor and lift mechanism out of my passenger door on my 87 TR. ............No cables, just a loop that enclosed a flexible threaded rod. Cleaned and re-greased all parts as well as the center channel that the lifting mechanism rides in.......works much better. But........I could not dismantle the gear assembly that the motor drives (sealed via locating pins from factory)...........Very surprised not to find the cable type lifting mechanism in this vehicle (maybe should consider myself lucky!!)......Anyone know why this window lift might be different from those described in the previous threads?

When I do the drivers side today I will take pix, if that would be of interest..........

I just purchased a set of window motors for my 1980 308 and got them from Rutlands, I think, off ebay. New for the set was $179 plus shipping. I have not yet installed them, because I just got done doing the stereo and speakers. So, the motors are next. It looks like I need to check the grease in the system as well(thanks for the info.)

I re-greased the gears in both doors and replaced the cable in one door and they work 1000% better, heck they actually go up and down with out me pulling or pushing on the glass. I did find out in working on them that I am losing 3 volts from the fuse box to the motors, I have checked the switches and they are fine. I did read in the archives at one time about putting in relays to assist which seems like the way to go. I just haven't had time to attack this and don't really understand the proceedure, so once I have more time and someone to assist, I will do this.
