Change is good. I like your new Idea Rob . . . it's more specific which is quite useful to someone like me who's reading impaired! Go for it.

 

But then if you want to do a search for some info on the 355, you'll have to search in two forums... in Classic for the more recent posts on the 355 and in Modern for the older posts.

I think the forum definitions need to be "stable"... cars shouldn't need regular shifting. If we don't change to the suggested model-oriented breakdown, then I'd be inclined to say that when the "Modern" section gets too fat, over time, then we break it at an appropriate generation-change, and name the generation.

But I think the proposed breakout is good.

 

My only gripe would be more segregation. I think people with 355's aren't far from the same category as a 360. That said, it would make the searches easier and more specific.

I like the new format proposal too. May I digress a little bit and suggest that FCHAT starts a Gallery section, one that is easy for members to upload their pictures to, and maybe open to only subscribers. May be even separate galleries under each model in case one combined gallery is not enough. Keep up the good work!

Add a REPLICA section. It's been needed for a long time. As the vintage cars continue to march beyond the $1,000,000 price level, no normal human can afford them, much less risk their value by driving them. So the repro, replica, fantasy, tribute cars will hold much interest. The purists may frown, but better to have a replica to drive and play with over a stack of Ferrari picture books on a coffee table.

I agree that a Mondial "t" should stick with the other Mondials. It's one "series".

A different question is whether to put "racing" versions of models as a separate category, ie: 348, 355 and 360 Challenge cars. Or just have a general "racing" section with cars like the 333sp, 550GTC, F1, etc. Or... would this fit into the existing "racing & tracking" category?

 

I just thought that a specific REPLICA section would quiet the squabbling that ensues whenever somebody discusses a FERRARI powered car that has a replica chassis or body. For example, that ZZ Top guy's GTO spyder that was widely discussed in the VINTAGE section. It was basically a fantasy REPLICA that did not relate to any real car. But most everybody entered into the discussion about it. It certainly wasn't built on a real GTO chassis. I just thought that a REPLICA section would be ideal for such cars that have no relation to a real Ferrari except the engine. Even Enzo himself extoled the virtues of the engine as being the heart of the beast.

 

I think that the new proposed format is a great idea. However, I think you mods are giving yourselves a ton of work. I mean when somebody posts about the wrong forum. With it being much more specific, the searching for the appropriate topic will be easy.

yes, PLEASE add some granularity. I waste too much time looking for relavant content in the "Modern" section. the sooner the better!

 

I almost never go anywhere but vintage, so I went with indifferent.

Adding the Dino subforum to Vintage was a good idea; an additional subforum about Vintage-based replicars wouldn't offend my sensibilities any...I think it would make Vintage a stronger and more-visited forum.

 

I like the current structure, with one extra catagory. In addittion to "modern", you could add "current" for the 430, 599 and 612 models.

 

New breakdown sounds good to me. Allows easy searching back and forth a few years. Go for it.
