My 348 is in the shop for its 30,000 service. I am having problems with my clutch. We have the clutch out in doing so the Technician removed the bottom muffler. When I asked the Technician if they started it up he said yes, he said it was about 20% louder. But he did say it was hard to tell because exhaust was coming from up and under the car.
My question is has anyone bypassed that lower stock muffler?
    How did it sound?
All you would have to do is cut off the brackets and pipes and wield a piece to connect them I would say maybe $100.00 at a muffler shop. You would have to make sure you leave enough room if at a later date you would like to wield up the lower muffler.
In my opinion I like the sound of the stock muffler I just would like it louder.

At least one Fchatter has removed the top of the two mufflers (which is a lot like what the 348 Spider exhaust eventually became), routing the exhaust from the cats directly to the lower muffler.

F-Chatter Plugzit removed the bottom can and had pipes put on the top can as you desrcibe. It sounds okay, and you'll will loose about 30/lbs of weight.

i tried exactly what your talking about, removed the bottom can and routed the top out the back, made it sound a little better but not much, i wouldnt waist your time, it wasnt worth the trouble, if your looking for an inexpensive way to go, get a used later year 348 single can exhaust, i picked one up off ebay for about $400, sounds much better then just removing the bottom can

Or....................you can remove both like i did. When i did my clutch job 2 months ago,i did the same thing and started the car with the bottom muffler removed and it sounded a little louder and a little cooler. So last week,i thought maybe i should removed both and have a listen. And its ALOT louder and sounds sooooooooooooo cool at high RPM. Check the link out :D
