hahaha i'll run that one by the wife, sure to get laughs. as to how it looks with the plates, yeah it does look somewhat dissapointing, but i don't have a pile of 45' s otherwise it'd look a little more intimadating with three 45's and then a 10/5/2.5 on each side. and you'd be suprised at how expensive plates are!

Not at all....but may I suggest next time getting some plates that are black polypropalyne and filled with aluminum-shot: MASSIVE APPEARANCE!!!!!! :)

Remember dude....it's not how much you lift, it's entirely how cool you look doing it! ;) I also love your no-spotter approach: lift or die is amazing incentive.......

I'm not a big fan of gyms either...but being in college I really have no choice. Although I used to be a member of a really nice gym back home.

But being in college (or any crowded gym), upper body days always end up with me waiting around 15-20 minutes for a bench. Same thing for curls/abs. Usually I just get bored and do pull ups or calf raises while I wait.

Speaking of calf raises, the last time I was at the gym I walked over to the calf machine (one where it rests on your shoulders and you stand up on your tip-toes to lift the weight). Huge meathead (stretch marks on his arms, 'bruises' on his bicep ie. roids) was doing around 160lbs. I ask if I can work in and he says ok. When its my turn he drops the weight down to 120lb.

I try it. Too easy. Up to 160lb, too easy. Up to 200lb. Too easy. Full stack, not too bad. Do 15 reps and let him go again. He looks kind of miffed and tries it. Cant get it more than once. Looks at me confused and drops it back down to 160lb.

Ive always had strong calves :D

Nice work with the bench. I was a shot putter in college, but never could get a big bench. Best best was 340x2. Squats and deads were my best lifts, along with olympics. Best squat was 585, with a 705 dead. Cleaned 385.

That was about five years ago. I'm still pulling a litlle about 600 on my deads. Squats are way down. Bench still sucks!

Although lots of people mean well and try to give advice on training methods and diet, you should be cautious when taking there advice. While reading through these posts, there are about 8 different theories on training "how to's" and in my humble opinion, only one person sounded knowledgeable about training. You really need to know your body and its limits to intensity, diet and recovery. Your age, diet, stress level, sleep pattern have a big role in what you are trying to accomplish as well. I have been lifting for a while and help people with a training schedule on occasion at my local gym.
Depending on how long you have been lifting, a 6 day double split is fine, but it is usually for veterans in the game. I personally workout 6 days with only one body part per day and this is where i see the best results. Again only you can know your body and figure out how you respond best.

I will say this: you seem to be doing too many reps if you are trying to increase strength. Lower it down to an 10,8,6,4 and go heavier accordingly.

One guy said to keep shocking your system and he is right on the money.
I have been doing this and hit 5 plates on the bench for a few reps about 2 years ago...

    Good luck

Did she really train you? I've actually been a big fan of her's for a while. I'd be interested in hearing about her training theories.

Her training theories were quite simple. She would put a ton of weight on the bar and when I couldnt lift it, she would say I can lift that and I am a girl. You stupid looser. J/K.

She is a great person and fun to be around. I trained with her for over a year. My big problem was that I eat really, really bad.

That's pretty awesome. I've been into the powerlifting/athletic training scene for years now. She's one of the people I'd love to sit down with and pick their minds! Since you had worked with her, did you get a chance to see or train with her lifting parter Becca Swanson? I've watched some video of her and she's a true freak of nature in terms of strength.

She knows a ton. She just blew away her competition in the strongest woman contest. It was pretty awesome.

No I never met Becca. She lives in another state.
