boy, this brings back memories... * did the Italiano thing in 1987, right aroud XMAS. * tour of the factory. Back then, they'd let you take pics on the tour. Not sure I still have the pics, but was really neat. * car i was most interested in was a 412 with hood removed for some last minute adjustments. * cool watching the assembly line. * after the tour, was standing at the bus stop right outside the gate, when from right across the street, I see this 'thing' exit onto the road. Grabbed camera, got a smeary, live action pic of an F40 going out onto the road(to the track?) for some testing. Mags at the time just had big news about the F40, so it was quite a treat to see one in person zoom right by me as I was standing on the curb. Nifty pics you have here...
Nice pictures. I have a 348 that is listed as being built in August 89, so it could have very well still been on the factory lot at the time. I went to the factory in the summer of 85 and have some pictures somewhere. I will try to remember to dig them up and scan / post them. BT
Nice. I like the fourth pic down. A nice colored Mondial, and if I am seeing it correctly, an early Alfa 164 parked on the near right.
There was a very nice hardcover book published by Motorbooks in 1990: Inside Ferrari by Michael Dregni. Original price was US$29.95. Full of color & B&W photos of the factory: elder days to 1989. Probably out of print now, but if you like this vintage of Ferrari factory lore, you might throw out a used-book search for a copy. Detailed chapters on all the aspects & sections of the factory, with a special chapter devoted to the F40 manufacturing process.
That's an EXCELLENT book...a must-have for the true tifoso. Another good book I've got is "Ferrari-The Factory" by Karl Ludvigsen. Great shots from 1950 to 1975.
