Hi 2poor, got to change the username once you get a 355 Almost all of the remaining 355 are COE cars now as most people would export them due to the high papervalues. They're still trading well above S$200K, up to mid perhaps & there's a yellow spider available. Insurance really depends on your age & experience but can be S$5K+/- for a comprehensive, you can PM me when you get it as my friend works in the industry & is really helpful. Eg. not like a typical used cardealer. Check out the ECUs, as they tend to act up due to age & expensive to replace. I think there's three types of ECUs, engine, suspension & dashboard??? Look out for cutchwear, suspension bushings & those interior are coming loose. Do all the usual things you would on a used car & remember, they are about 10yrs old. Pay HS some $ to do a PPI & compression test & you'll know how healthy it is. Once it's running well, quite an easy maintenance car. Otherwise, visit the 355 section & you'll find may information there. There are many write-off cars in US & you can buy complete good engines & trans for less than rebuilt price. Welcome, maxpower. You aren't that one @ SinMing are you? Anyway, I might be joining you as well. You guys think I should renew COE on 98/99 models (abt S$200K all in & throw in a GT2 kit+compressor) or spend more to get a 2002 facelifted & 3.6? 996 bodies are dropping badly on export. Speaking of 996, saw a wonderful silver GT3 #555 outside Mandarin yesterday. Quite a different beast from the norm & huge discs with Kinesis rims. I think it has a map of Nurburing track on the tail.
Jon, Facelifted 2002,3.6. Better build quality, evident in the switchgears..and of course, better power and torque respectively. JMO.
Yes, but they cost a about hundred thousand dollars more! And those lights, don't look like Boxster anymore.
Just trying to egg you on to commit to a ride for the MME! How about shipping your RS down to prove me wrong? By the way, HSM's trying to get hold of a 430 Challenge car for me - may want to run this in the 2007 MME and looking for drivers; any interest? Back to the 10-sec difference point. This may be a bit of an exaggeration but probably not that far off in reality. Fastest ever lap time in Sepang in a 996 GT3 Cup 2.12+ Marc Lieb and 2.13+ Rizal Ramli (Ringo our fellow MME driver did a 2.16). Qualifying time for the GT3 RS (running full slicks) in the MME last year 2.29 - probably 4-5 secs to spare if really pushed. I've done a 2.29 in my own street GT3 (on slicks) so 2.24/25 in the RS in the right hands is probably doable. Note that the Cup car carries 10km/h+ on the street car at the end of the front and back straights at Sepang; this coupled with the 200kgs diet and braking advantage, plus the firmer suspension setup widens the advantage. That said, no firm confirmation can be made until you ship your car down here!
Ok then Jon, The 99-2000 it is..hehe!( You seriously 'like' the Boxster lights ?). You can have the GT3 bodykit, not the GT2, slap on some different wheels, HRE's or BBS and you're lookin' good... You asked me to chk with Racecraft ? Call Shedden direct at KL 0173652777. I'm afraid you can't have it 'un-upholstered'. He quoted me RM2800/both. Real leather or faux not sure...
Any interest? ANY INTEREST? Are you out of your mind? Is the Pope Catholic? Is your Cup car exhaust loud? Is your Spyder a chick-puller? Could I do with losing a few pounds? Did Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction? Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Please let me know your plans, and keep me in mind. There you go! If you're capable of a 2.29 in your GT3 (which isn't yours anymore BTW, hehehehehe), then that RS at MME was pretty slow, and can't be used for comparison. Unfortunately, and at the risk of being blasted for this, I'm one of those people that can't bear to really USE their car. I mean, since the last track day at the beginning of March, I've only driven the RS twice! Once to park it at my other parking space, and the other to take it down for an oil change! So, no racing of THIS RS I'm afraid.
No, actually hate the lights & the later models are nicer, looks like a bulldog starring @ you but don't think we can change that do we? Your TT has the later style right? Yes, GT3, Ruf whatever there's a lot of things we can do to a 996. Looks like Shedden dropped the price for you. I couldn't get him yet. Maybe I'll just get one for the driver's seat or nobody can squeeze past the passenger. It's actually for my old porker, don't think they look right in a 348 unless they have the Recaros from the Carrera GT. I think Novitec used them in a 430.
Hey Weng, does HSM actually bring in Challenge cars to participate in track events? That'll be really nice to see stripped out cars to go head on with the RSs. I saw a few 355 Challenge in their garage but not sure if they were active here.
Jon, The TT was the first to come out with the 'bulldog eyes'. Then they adopted the look for the facelifted versh to distance it from the Boxster. In MY you can buy any imported car without paying the exorbitant tax, i.e imported straight out of the manufacturer's or overseas dealer IF you plan to race/show the car and NOT register it for the road. If and when you decide to register the said car, you'd then have to pay the whole tax caboodle, discounted of course.( Challenge Cars/Cups are normally purchased this way) Heck, IF I have the money, I'd plonk down for an F40 (MY can drive LHD) since it's about the same price as a new 430 fully taxed here, under so-called race or show permit and take it out on midnite runs with my Duke's license plates....hehe!
Oh ya & the value of your F40 stays there or up while an F430 drop like a bomb. Man, you really make me feel like moving up but seriously I've been planning to move my business there as well then we can hang around every weekend @ Sepang or B roads! You do any local projects? What's your forte? Do you believe in conservation?
when someone told me Porsche Motorsports were getting orders for Cup cars to be added with handbrake, I somehow knew where it was going.
They can bring anything in for you so long as you show them the money. The challenge has been there like forever, its for sale, belongs to a Thai lady...
Sheeden gets his stuff from china and he rebrands it himself . well if you like his stuff.. No comments then,
Jon, I'm into Hi-Tech design/solutions. More towards the Foster/Rogers brigade. And if this Shedden/Sheeden dude really gets them seats from CN ( I'm in CN now)...and if you're really cutting costs, better get up to KL and get used Recaros, strip them bare and reupholster. Prices range from RM500-1200/pair. At the very least you'd know they have the anti-submarining thingy whatever and a proven make.
well.. since u are in china, you shld know better.. then again.. you might not.. hee doesnt mean that you stay. there.. means you know everything.. like i said.. its up to you. I personally would not use shedden or carbon craft.. or race craft.. whatever the name of his company is.
The 355 Challenge cars that you see at HSM were raced by a friend of mine Richard Wee in the late 90's in the 355 Challenge series - been mothballed since. No 430 Challenge series in Asia at present unfortunately which explains the difficulty of trying to pry one out of the factory. Production this year I believe is being allocated first to the Challenge series participants. ET of HSM is at the factory this week and will be trying to beg for one for me - which I intend to use alongside the GT3 Cup as a dedicated track toy. Much cheaper than beating up exotic street cars at Sepang. By the way, ET himself has a dedicated track toy in the form of a Maserati Tropheo which resides at HSM's KL premises.
Didn't they do any 360 Challenge series in the region? It's very active in States & Europe. I thought the Japanese bought some used 550/575GTs from US & raced in their local cups with some successes. There were some good information I read before, the factory didn't support & in fact were a little doubtful of the small US race team so the American guy went to buy some used street 550s & convert them then went on to score some wins in the States but the cars were retired after some season & sold to Japanese teams. Please let us know more of the Cups going on since F1 is out of reach for most of us. Is Ringo still with the Asian Carrera Cup? Maybe our new Tuas track will bring some excitement here & the tyres shops will be busy.
Cool, now I know who to look for when I want a glass house with all the metalwork. Thought of the used seats idea, but I want light weight CF/kevlar shells & they're hard to find not to mention I like the style of GT3 which is quite a recent model but I hear people are starting to dump them for newer CGT version which is good news for me! Frankly, what's not made in China these days? It's the QC we're more concerned of as we know how Chinese like to dwell on cutting costs & make big bucks resulting poor quality products that don't last. Quite unlike the Japanese. There's not much magic in laying fibre work, I've done it before in my school days but breathing all the toxics are really bad for our lungs. But to get the beautiful look like a silk cloth requires some skills, not to mention the glossy finishing later. Unless it's a huge project like a chassis or body which will require a huge & expensive "oven" which I think few companies would invest in.
true. I think that with CF parts , please make the distinction between structural parts (ie , important stuff that can kill you and others if it failed) and other stuff (cosmetic) that doesn't matter whether it works or not. I have seen the CF (real ones , not Carbon layed GRP bonnets) bonnets that are sold by Racecraft and also their strut bars , etc , and its of a very high quality (visually). Whether their CF seats are good or not , I have no idea, but if you're concerned about it , then buy FIA approved stuff from 'major' makers. I would love to get a CF bonnet made up for my Fiat , but thats probably worse than unobtanium. cheers.
I've notice a number of ferrari owners in singapore who have traded or sold their ferrari for lamborghini....anyone knows the reason why...?? OR MAYBE 1)lamborghinis are rarer 2)lamborghini's performance 3)Ferraris are too soft and civilized 4)Better service at showroom 5)They are just bored with ferrari and decided to try lamborghini
Hey can any one tell me more about parallel import porsches, are they and benfits....because there is Porsche center singapore are selling a Porsche 997 c2 coupe tip for 404,888 and i belive that parallel import porsches are much cheaper rite....??
