I'm sure I'm not the only person who thought of what I'm thinking about when I read that ... :D

On a serious note are you sure you don't mean SVAG? Silicon Valley Auto Group? Closest acronym I know of.

    You aren't alone. :)

My first thought was AG. AG stands for Aktien Gesellschaft which shows its a publicly traded germany company or at least traded on the german exchange.

I did a google search for "what does VAG stand for"(just asking for trouble) and the FIRST thing to come up surprisingly was:

    Volkswagen AG .

    We will go with that.

VAG is generally referred to as "Volkswagen Auto Group," though the official meaning is probably Volkswagen AG. So when people say "VAG cars," they are referring to companies that VW owns, such as Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, etc.

When used as a Verb, VAG typically means to hook up the VW/Audi tool to your car to pull codes, etc. All of the VW/Audi maintenence tools have names like VAG 1111 or something. The computer is the same way, so people just call it a VAG. I believe that the VAG actually stands for Volkswagon AG as stated above.

The VW tool is referred to as a VAG-COM...VAG = Volkswagen Audi Gruppe

That's actually not correct. It is Volkswagon AG, or Volkswagon Aktiengesselschaft.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure I was correct on this one. I visit VWVortex often, I've owned VAG products most of my life (currently driving a VW R32) and those terms are often thrown around and I've always known VAG (or VWAG) as Volkswagen Audi Gruppe.
Unless bradg33 can support his claim, I'll stand by my statement.

Well, here's the Wikipedia reference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group

As you'll see, it's currently called Volkswagen AG for short, but the AG stands for Aktiengesselschaft.

And if that's not enough, here's a financial statement off the Volkswagen Inverstor Relations site that gives the full company name.

    http://www.volkswagen-ir.de/fileadmin/vw-ir2/dokumente/berichte/2005/Abschluss_Volkswagen_AG_zum_31.12.04_englisch.pdf

I'll tell you that I used to think it stood for Volkswagen Audi Group, or Gruppe. It makes sense, but it's not right.

If you'll notice, I also posted a link to a document off of the Volkswagen Investor Relations site that indicates the full, proper name.

And Auto Group would still be wrong in english, Incorporated would be more appropriate. Translated, AG means Shares Company.
