Ive stood on a board a few times.

But I'll be heading to Australia for a semester next year and plan on buying a board before I go. I've snowboarded for over 6 years, wakeboarded alot, and skateboarded when I was younger, so it seems like a natural thing to do. Just no waves in TN.

I surfed in the Santa Cruz for about 20 years. I quit because the breed of surfers all became a huge group of punks, pushing '******' to the maximum limit (Can I say that now?). I don't think there is a larger group of jerks than today's young surfers. To fuel their fire, I alway rode a long board and got a lot of waves. Though I would pass on many sets that rolled through, most of the potato chip riding thugs hated to see long boards. Just a mean group.

Tried on 3 or 4 occasions, but couldn't get a board big enough to stay above the water when I stood on it. My wife of course caught a bunch of waves the first time she tried, and went all the way to the shore. :p

I stuck to a bit of boogeyboarding, which of course cuts out the whole standing up problem.

My undergrad was ranked the #1 surf school though!

I used to do every board sport (Skateboard, Snowboard, Wakeboard, Surf, Kiteboard, Windsurf, basically anything that involved a board). It was a lot of fun. Surfing was actually the hardest, but when you caught a good wave and stayed up for a while it was one of the best sports. I wish I still did it, but I moved on and don't do any board sport now.

Laie, Hawaii - the Northern tip of Oahu on the "windward" side. The North Shore is the side of the island wrapping around the top of the picture.

I am an occassional surfer. Usually in Jupiter, FL but only when the waves are small. i get thrashed around too much in the rought surf, plus the sharks can't see too good when the water is all stirred up. A friend of mine goes to Costa Rica once a year for the really good surf. I don't travel to surf since I am not serious about it at all.

Been surfing since I was 13 and am now 40. Used to drive every other weekend to San Diego in between daily trips for the 4:00-5:00 surf session at Big Surf in Tempe. I spend alot of time wake surfing behind my wakeboard boat currently, Very satisfying knee to waist high wave. I know this sounds a little juvenile but I can still be talked into skating a session in a empty pool. I actually have the wifes ok to build a small halfpipe in our backyard for some old school rippin.
    Keep the stoke!

Used to. Cayucos, Isla Vista, 'bu, Old Man's were hangouts at different times as I moved North to South. Over the years, had @ dozen boards, some shortboards, mostly vintage longboards, with the obligatory modern tri-fin longboard.

Mind you, the best board I ever rode was a rental, when I managed to escape a family reunion in Pismo with a cousin who'd brought his potato chip. Damn, it was perfect. If I thought it, it did it. Magic. They wouldn't sell.

Leashes? Leashes? Weeeeeeeee don't need no steenkeeng leashes!

The times have changed Peter! The current worst behaved group in Santa Cruz are the old timers! They sit out there with their fat bellies and mustaches that have earned them the nickname "walruses" and ***** and complain about every damn thing. They ride ridiculously oversized boards (even for their ever-expanding weight) to make up for their lack of fitness and laziness. I don't see why they are even out there because they certainly aren't having any fun.

I ride a longboard often too - and the young surfers on shortboards don't bother me at all. It's the retired crew that drives me nuts in SC. Of course I won't be going to SC much in the immediate future because HWY 1 is shut down just south of my place in Pacifica and I'm not going to go all the way around to go south. So I'm just surfing from Pacifica north these days.
