Looks like an early Corvette with hard top in that third picture. What race is that from?
Hello, It looks to be Clark and Gurney sitting on the track. Clark drove for Aston Martin, he "pushed" at the back of Ricardo Rodriguez at the end of the race. Ricardo was ... 17 ! Best, Florent
... Ricardo drove the car # 17 ! He finished 2nd, Gendebien and Frère won the race with the car number 11 Best, Florent
Stu The Millanta family (daughter and widow) is currently sueing a well known Italian book author, they are asking Euro € 400 (US$ 500) per photo used and Euro 20.000 (US$ 24.000, yes, twentyfourthousand) for damages. I have a copy of the court order from Milan. Giorgio Nada in Milan, who published my book "Ferrari by Vignale", acquired in the early 1990s at a Finarte auction in Modena the Alberto Sorlini photo collection incl. all negatives and copyright. Sorlini was one of the official Mille Miglia photographers, who from 1947 to 1957 took pix of each car at the starting ramp on Viale Rebuffone in downtown Brescia, every single year and every single car. Good quality photos. Now, Giorgio Nada, besides being a biz man, is a really nice and charming Italian gentleman who makes these pix available (see also book "Red Arrows - Ferraris at the Mille Miglia") and more or less acceptable prices. There was a number of professional industrial photographers in and around Modena in the 50s and 60s, such as Gildo Mantovani or Gaspare Galante, aside from the ones I mentioned earlier already. Today the Panini family in Modena (Hazienda Hombre, Maserati) also has a large archive of historic photographs. Marcel Massini
500 TR Spider Scaglietti #0636 MDTR on 9 June 1997 in Maranello. AFAIK both cars have never shown up/found again. Parts have been found like the PF Cab SI engine that was in the car. BTW: After 9 years of lititgation the insurance finally paid a few month ago. Regards Wolfi
The fourth photo is actually from LeMans in 1962. The subjects are Hill & Genendbien. IMHO one of the greatest endurance driver combinations ever. Now LeMans entrants run three or four drivers! Thanks for your comments, keep them coming, David
Is that the Briggs Cunningham Corvette ( White w/ Blue strips) trailing the Ferrari towards turn one? Thanks! Mark
Thanks for that information. Unfortunately at a typical cost of around $300 to $500 per use of each individual photo, there is no way proper book on all the small displacement, obscure Italian (plus French, German and Eastern European sports-racers) could ever be done, so I guess "La Sport" is probably the best we will ever get
LeMans 1964. John Surtees and Surtees w/Mike Parkes. Masten Gregory is off to one side just before the start. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
But which one? There were 3 if I remember correctly. I've got a video somewhere that shows some old film taken of Zora Duntov and the Cunningham cars as they practiced at LeMans in 1960. I haven't watched the video in a long time. I will have to watch it again and check for any Ferraris. I think that 1 or 2 of those Corvettes have been restored.
David, I believe the first photo is Pedro Rodriquez in NART car #15 which he shared with Skip Hudson, Skip wore a white helmet and sat much taller in the saddle than Pedro. Great photos, please keep posting, I never get tired of looking. Gramps
Now that I look at it closely I think you are right! I am glad you enjoy the photos. Fchatter Horsefly said it well "what good are the photos if they just sit in a box. I put the copyright mark on them not for commercial reasons but to protect myself from the bad guys.
The #15 car is 250P s/n 0810, as mentioned previously driven by Pedro Rodriguez and Skip Hudson. Today in the Anthony Wang Collection. Car #19 is 330P s/n 0822, driven I believe by Surtees and Bandini. Car today is in Pierre Bardinon's Mas du Clos Collection. -Jarrett
0810 used to be owned by my friend Ken Starbird in the days when we used to drive'em. Had a ride in it one day that scared the crap out of me when he went screaming up to a stop sign and slammed on the brakes at the last possible moment! He was just showing me how well the brakes worked--well, yeah! Still see Ken, last time just a few days ago. Ken had and drove regularly 3 comp Ferraris before he ever owned a street model. Sorry if this is a high-jack.
Harley Cluxton III, The Count to his friends, told me that he used to have a 250P has his college street car!! Not too hard to believe if you know Count Cluxtini!!!
Among many other significant Ferraris s/n 0810 passed through his hands. That would mean he could only pick up one girlfriend at a time. Jurgen

Great pictures again, as always, David. The #6 car is obviously 330TRi/LM s/n 0808 while the #27 car is 268SP s/n 0798 with modified rear deck specially for Le Mans. Both of those pics were from 1962. Meanwhile the #14 car is Maranello Concessionaires' 330P entry s/n 0818 at Le Mans 1964. -Jarrett
Nice pic, thanks David ! Shot on thursday test day before the race : many young boys in the pits, thursday was school day-off ! Behind Gendebien, probably Scarfiotti, with Ricardo Rodriguez standing on the other side of the car and Pedro sat in the pit. I don't know the name of the plump "gendarme" ...
