I started watching the "academy award winning" movie Crash last night and didn't get more than a half hour into it before changing the channel. At the time I thought the whole Brokeback issue was BS, but now I'm wondering. Crash was horribly contrived. Tell me, what don't I get or what did I miss?

You and I seem to be in the same minority. We watched Crash for about 20 minutes and turned it off...it seemed very ponderous.

I actually watched the whole thing (and the other crash movie with James Spader too), but I didn't see a 'winner' in it. Shock value or some kind of emotional uproar is what an audience was left with.

I found the whole blatant, out of the gate racist dialogue ridiculous and as I noted earlier VERY contrived.

My thoughts exactly. I found myself asking everybody "what am I missing here?"

I wouldn't go see BBM in the theater. My wife went and bought it when it came out on video. I told her I didn't want to see it as the plot had no interest to me. But, I sat next to her on the computer when she put it on. Every once and awhile I'd look over and she looked like she didn't care for it. It was way to slow with poor character development, even for her. She was close to turning it off several times. Not because of the controversial issues, but because it wasn't good.

Thanks for the heads up on this award winner..........

I watched it this evening. It's sure no Pulp Fiction. Very contrived, and I really disliked 95% of the characters in the film. I don't see how this is supposed to open any 'national dialogs on race relations' like it was hyped

I thoroughly enjoyed BBM. I haven't seen Crash. I wouldn't have bought into the "conspiracy theory" about Crash's win except that the most senior members of the Academy (involved in the voting) were proudly admitting they hadn't even bothered to see BBM. Now, that's just wrong.

    I really liked Crash.

The first 30 minutes actually pissed ALOT of people off (friends, family mentioned this when they saw it too). But it gets alot better.

Its more of a "look how connected we all are" type thing. It can be a bit preachy though.

I think it was a great movie, there were 2 really touching scenes. They didn't have to do with race, they were just really good. You definitely should watch the whole movie through.

    I enjoyed the movie but....
    it is very contrived.

I think the subject was more of a reason to gain recognition over the actual over the top plot.
