Wow...! I was waaaaaaaaay off... Though our numbers still don't match, I just added them up again and now I'm a lot closer to your number... I don't know how the heck I did that...! Here's what I've got... 365 GT4 2+2: 525 400 GT: 501 400i:1,294 412 GT: 576 For a total of: 2,896 I have no idea how I arrived at that other number; sorry, everyone...
My number for the 400 cars is from FML, so I know that we agree on that! Some sources show it as 500 cars. The number for 400i of 1,294 is often seen but misses 14 cars produced in January and February of 1985. Usually it is thought that production was only 1979-84. John
Okay, so the new top five list is as follows... 1. 360s... 2. 308s... 3. 355s... 4. 348s... 5. 328s... And again, as mentioned yesterday, if you lump the Testarossas, 512 TRs and F512 Ms all in one group, that would replace the 348s for the number four spot... Sorry for the screw-up everyone...
Carbon - It appears that for the 348's, the difference between your number (8654) and mine (8769) is the 115 Serie Speciales. Is that right?
Bob... That sounds about right. I don't know why the Serie Speciales weren't included in the total number I found, but the difference makes sense... Also, Ferrari actually made 119 Serie Speciales - after the 115, they made four more - all RHD.
Obviously, those small differences make no difference in the ranking of the 348's. FWIW, my approach regarding the Testarossa's would be to include the numbers for the 512TR's and M's. We agree on 9957 as being the correct total for all of those.
And if we DON'T do any combining of variations in a model line, the Testarossa ranks first among completely unique models. I have the top five (other than the 360's) as follows: Testarossa = 7177 328 GTS = 6068 F355 Berlinetta = 4915 348 TS = 4230 F355 Spider = 3714
Those are the exact numbers I have... And the 360 variants are as follows: 360 Modenas: 8,500 360 Spider: 7,500 And, thanks to this thread, our FOTD...
for some logic reason 308 & 328s should be count together as well 348 & 355 are ALMOST the same thing so when the F430 stops production (some 4 years more) 430 plus 360s will be the most produced Ferrari SHAPE in history by far .... purists don't flame me ; I'm refering to car shape alone.
Did you read the earlier posts in this thread? If you have specific models you want to know about (that haven't been mentioned already) let us know. But we sure can't post numbers for every model Ferrari ever made.
It is interesting that though Enzo and Ferrari purists have always thought that front engine V12's are the "true" Ferrari road cars, this list shows that the rear engine V8's completely dominate what the market wants Ferrari to build. No wonder most people's idea of a Ferrari is a rear engine V8 sports car. I don't see why that shouldn't be the image of the "true" modern Ferrari.
If you count the TR, 512TR and F512M all together because they all based on same car with face-lift or variations, then you need to include the 348 with the 355 group as well. Because the 355 was a face-lift from the 348... I think GTB,GTS, open or closed top is more of an option than a facelift or variation... The Testarossa did not have such option available...
I don't think you count them together in a lump. The cars are different and are seperate. The 355 is way different than the 348 and the 512tr is a lot different than the tr.
I think so... the 348 and 355 are on same base car like the TR and 512TR. 328 and 348, that's a different cars, or 512BB and TR... that's a total different car, though they were a continuty on the same line...
I agree with this. The 348 and 355...same car in its basic form. 308,328..same car, different enigne and trim..chassis is the same for both. All Tesstarossa models should be in the same production number as well. Same chassis layout..just updated through out its production life. Production numbers are fairly high for each model (or chasssis) if you look at it in this manner.
It would be interesting to get an official opinion from the Ferrari organization regarding their stance on 308/328, 348/355, 360/430, TR's, 550/575, Boxers, 400's, etc. as continuity of a single model run vs. different models. What would you think they would say?
