    Kind of funny people complain....

Go to the store and pay a $1 for 32 oz bottle of water...$4/gallon

So now with gas... they find it in the ground, pump it, load it onto a ship, send it half way around the word, refine it, pipeline/truck it to your neighborhood.... all for $3.

IMO, bottled water is the rip-off. go picket that corp!

Yeah I can't believe people buy bottled water. Tap tastes better and usually bottled water is tap water anyway

I don't NEED to buy a bottle of water. I usually NEED to fill up my car, I need to heat and cool my house. I can do what I can in order to control how much I NEED to do it. I think the $1.00 bottle of water analogy is a little off in this case.

I get water that is found in the ground, then pumped, then filtered, then sent through pipes not to my door, TO MY FAUCETS! All for pennies on the dollar. Good deal to me.

Those $/gal of Milk things don't make sense either. I can't remember the last time I had milk.

These guys can get away with it. I highly doubt that production costs are increasing to the extent that they claim. $3 is the current plateau. Wait till this summer and they'll have stair stepped pricing up to $3.50 or so, maybe more. Start bombing Iran and it'll make $3 look cheap.

Bottled water is not tap water, even if there have been a few cases where that has been the case. Tap water is filtered and does not have almost-lethal levels of lead, chlorine, and other crap. Continue to drink from the tap, but it'll kill you.

The entire 'oil companies makes soooo much money' whine is stupid. Yes, ExxonMobile is the Fortune 1, both in revenues and profits. However, a closer look reveals that their profit margins are in 10-12% range! That's seriously low compared to most other major industries. Software profit margins are 80%+. Retail margins are 25-50%. Further, want to pay $3/gallon now and let the oil companies generate enough money to plow back into new exploration/development, or just wait and pay $6/gallon tomorrow?

The press loves to report to the ignorant. Simple business and economics says the oil companies are not scamming/cheating/screwing/gouging/whatever you. get over it.

I like how a realtor is on here telling people to learn macroeconomics. If I wa a realtor I'd be looking for a new industry if I wasn't busy 24/7 with clients. Let me give you a hint, RE ain't picking up anytime soon.

I just find it odd that everyone gets whipped up over petroleum industry profits, or private industry profits in general and not the obscene amount of taxes tacked on to gasoline.

    I blame the news media.

$3 gallon fuel is proportunate to $300k houses that were $125 k 6 years ago, we are in an unprecendented rise in inflation, much like in the 70s when everyday items doubled.

It always cracked me up. In the LA ski club I used to belong to, on trips to ski resorts people would buy bottled water even though the tap water tasted great.

Why aren't we complaining about Coca-Cola, or any other soda? That's close to $7/gallon going off 20oz bottle prices! ;)

I find it odd that people begrudge the oil companies for making a PROFIT. Would they rather they be bankrupt like the airlines and auto makers?

I say let the free market dictate gas prices just as it does everything else. At $3.00 / gallon, demand continues to rise. Well... supply and demand is Economics 101. You are not ENTITLED to gas (or anything else) for "cheap." You play, you pay. :)

That said... even at $3.00 / ga., we have some of the cheapest gas in the world.

    Mike

PS... the liquid agent used to bond fillings costs me $57,000 / gallon. Not a typo! Fortunately, I buy it 5 ml at a time! But, it works out to $57,000/gallon!

Exactly. The people who cry foul can't seem to understand basic economics and when you try to correct them, they resort to personal attacks about one's occupation. It's sad that stupid people are so numerous.

I drink 10 gallons and it's all tap water through a Brita filter, which needs replacing now that I think about it. I guess I have a lot of lead in my system or whatever else is in tap water.

I leave all my cars idling all the time so the bozos with Suburbans have to pay more. I have a "Friends of OPEC" membership to uphold.
