?

What would you do?

  1. dumbass kids, just walk over and spill the cooler releasing the fish (angry)

  2. silly kids, lecture them, ask them and if they dont' comply...release their fish anways!

  3. Make another brief plea not to waste/kill the fish and then walk away

  4. I wouldn't say or do anything; not my problem

I would have just told them "those fish are too small to keep, you're going to have to throw them back." And then watch them do it. I don't buy the "let kids be kids" angle, because it's ignorant behavior like this that has a cumulative negative effect. I'm not some anal-retentive do-gooder, but hunting and fishing restrictions aren't arbitrarily determined. The park and wildlife services set these limits for a reason, so what difference does it make if it's "kids being kids" instead of a group of adults. Somewhere there should be parents telling them it's OK to go fishing, but not to bring back a bucket of tiny dead fish.

Naw, don't see it (the difference).
The frogs and bluegills in the kids bucket are going to die early, andthe kids will learn something from the experience.
Same thing happens to lab rats.

I'd have used my camera, taken their picture, taken the picture of the fish, and told them that I would turn them in, if they don't do the right thing. And I would have. Kids will be kids, for sure. However, they learn right from wrong by experience. Getting away with this will only reinforce poor behavior.

If their parents stand up for them, you'll see how they got there, but keeping those fish is a crime, and even if they're young they need to be taught right from wrong.

If the scenario bothered you that much, you should have tried to get ahold of a fish & game officer. A lecture from such a person probably would have been a good idea to teach the kids responsible fishing habits and to respect the spirit of fish & game.

I didn't bother me that much at all....just wondering what other people might have done.

It reminds me of when I see someone throw their cigarette butt out the window and litter...as much as I'd like to say I go over, pick it up and either throw it back at them or embarrass them, I don't.....and this fishing incident thing strikes me of it in the same manner. How far are we willing to act when presented with something we think is wrong......

...and I'm just churning up some F-chat convo. :)

Then let's hope, when the time comes, that you're not reincarnated as a bluegill in Lake Arrowhead down by Meadow Bay North....Matteo! ;)

Kind of cold to be fishing at Lake Arrowhead. Where was Fish and Game? This would not have happened at Big Bear Lake. Fish and Game would have been on this like stink on bait.

Relax. If I ever have kids, I'll pay a baby sitter to raise them. That and a good plasma tv.
