On A Beatles Kick...

I'm gonna' look when I get home as I have an original "Let It Be" album and I don't believe he's listed on the cover or even on the inside. i'll check when I get home and post.

So there may be a technicality here. Credit on a single but not on the album? I thought that he was listed as "The Beatles WITH Billy Preston" on the album, but it may have been a single. Either way, I believe that he was the only one to receive front cover credit.

 

Well, its definitley not on the "Let It Be" album front, just pics of the fab four. There is mention on the back: "Thanks to George Martin/Glyn Johns/Billy Preston/...and others are listed. No other mention on the inside of the album and the album sleeve is blank. My copy is a US version, perhaps the UK was diff.

 

When you said front album cover, I thought you mean't whose picture was with the beatles on a album cover. As far as credit, I don't recall Preston sharing it on the front, unless it's a album cover from another country. Eric Clapton played lead guitar on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", but I don't think his name is credited anywhere on the White Album but I have to check.

 

It may very well have been the single as Wikipedia indicated. In the back of my mind, I seem to remember seeing a picture of the record cover with the words "with Billy Preston".

 

After doing some quick reserch, VeeJay Records put out an album called "The Beatle and Frank Ifield On Stage" in 1964. They were trying to cash in on the Beatles popularity and they had rights to a few of the Beatles songs at the time, but not enough to make one entire album. Here's the story from Wikipedia

"Ifield toured the UK, supported by The Beatles. While Vee-Jay Records temporarily had the rights to a number of The Beatles recordings, they released an album called "Jolly What" England's Greatest Recording Stars: The Beatles and Frank Ifield on Stage" on February 26, 1964. This consists of four studio recordings of the Beatles plus eight live on-stage recordings of Ifield. The original pressing has a drawing of a chubby old man with a moustache, and is itself quite rare. However, just before Vee Jay's publishing rights were about to expire on October 10th 1964 they changed the sleeve cover to a drawing of the Beatles. Probably less than 100 copies were pressed. It is the rarest Beatles album. Three sealed stereo copies were discovered in 1976. The first copy sold for 600 dollars, the second for 900 and the third for 1,800 dollars. One of the three was sold in 1995 for 22,000 dollars."

If you have this album..do not throw it out. Anyway, I believe this counts as having shared credit on an album cover. Do I win anything?
