I have a 2000 Modena 360 F1. When I come to a stop, occasionally the F1 transmission light (not sure what its called) starts blinking and the car will not shift gears. This goes away if I shut the car off and turn it back on. The light is not on steady, and there are no warning sounds etc. Anyone got any input on how to go about resolving this?

The same thing happened to Brian Willis's 360 at T.Rutlands picnic this weekend. He thought maybe the pump, but there was no leaks and the engine would start, just couldn't shift.

He got it going again (after we pushed him out of the path of traffic). There just happened to be a tech guy at the event and it was tentitivly diagnosed as dirty micro switches on the shiffter padels and that cleaning them up would help prevent the problem from arising again. A quick fix was to rapidly play with the paddles (with the engine off).

Haven't talk to Brian since Saturday, the day of the picnic, but after the event I followed him home just to make sure he wouldn't be stranded.

The cars warning light is trying to inform you there is a problem and it can only be resolved by bringing it to someone that is equipped to diagnose and repair it.

Quit driving it before it stops in the middle of the road somewhere dangerous and bring it to someone to have it fixed. Turning something on and off or wiggling a wire won't do it.

I figured i'd ask since the closest dealer is like 100 miles away. Not exactly a hop skip n' a jump :(

It can be a real PITA but you really need to go.

If not for this reason, at least do it so you won't have to push it. I helped push the one at Rutland's last Sat. There is no cool place to touch one of those things on the back right after they shut off.

Check the F1 fluid level. I was getting an intermittent F1 fault till I topped it off. If that isn't the issue, then I agree with all the experts that you should bring it in. Even worse than the 'too hot to push' issue, if it gets stuck in gear there was a post quite some time ago indicating that the car can't be moved onto a flatbed without a special (dealer only) tool to force the gearbox to neutral. Scarey thought having to wait many hours just for the properly equiped tow truck. Luckily I've not had this experience directly :)

All this sounds like a good arguement to pick the 6 speed manual.

    Well, 6 speeds haven't been trouble-free either.
Remember the sticking throughout bearings in the
    first year?

Personally I really like the F1 in the 360. The only
real frustration has been that the dealers keep
wanting to reset the PIS value whenever the clutch
gets inspected. If this was more visible without
having to visit the closest SD-2, I think I would be
    much happier.

Ferrari makes a good argument to drive a Toyota, except we like to drive Ferrari's.
