Both Ferraris I have owned (360 and 430) have been trouble-free, so I wouldn't worry about that aspect of Ferrari ownership anymore. If you want a Gallardo, fine, but I doubt it would be any more reliable. Maintenence may be a bit less expensive with the G, but not enough to swing the deal, IMO. Gary
I thought you were going to say "headache of Ferrari dealers" I think reliablility has come-up on both Lambo and Ferrari, but Lambo seems to build cars that can tackle all kinds of conditions. I still can't believe how Lambo Owners take their baby's out- rain, snow or shine. Skiing? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Since youth Ferraris have had a special attraction to me - I'm a Ferrari fan through and through. Yet, the looks of the 360 & 430 do not grab me. The Gallardo does. FWIW, I've been passenger in all three on the track. If I was in the market to buy, my thinking (today!) is that I'd get a 550. Ciao, Pete
The G-Spider looks great on paper, however I sat in bothe the 430 and the G Spiders at the Geneva auto show and found the G Spider a little lame for a Lambo. The interior just screamed Audi and it was not a special place to be in. The 430, I loved a lot. However I still think the G is a great car, just not as nice the Prancing Pony.
"In Az i asked the AZ Ferrari club to organise a trackday, and they looked at me like I was crazy." The "Ferrari poseur v. Lambo enthusiast" owner profile doesn't hold up. I spend a lot of time at race tracks and have seen one or two Lambos - and many Ferraris. I'll be racing my 360C at Mid Ohio this weekend, and will report back on the Lambo count. Incidentally, I've driven the G spyder and think it's a great car - speaks for itself.
"Incidentally, I've driven the G spyder and think it's a great car - speaks for itself." Do tell....give us your thoughts!
Ahhh, Ellen Lame-O. There's just no accounting for taste. Of this, you continue to be clearly an example. However, you can't ignore one of the previous posts that states factually "...the market has clearly spoken". Simply, you just can't deny it. Just get over it. Jeeez, what a bore.
The market has spoken as to what? Dealer inflated hype? Please inform as to what the market means in terms of a nasty banana 328? Judging by your choice of rides, you are in no danger of owning a 360, 430 or Gallardo anytime soon.
Hey.. Ellen. Are you there? Are you on earth? The market speaks with how they spend their money;what they are spending their money on; how much they're willing to spend to get the product; how long they are willing to wait to get it. Get it? Jeeez. Wake up, little Ellen! Again, the market has spoken. Perhaps you need to step away from behind the tail of the cringing cow...methinks you've been hooved too many times.
I had the opportunity to play with a F430 spider on sunday night, and I was floored. I fell in love with it the second I walked into the garage. I would be shocked if the G-spyder had a similar/greater affect on me. I have seen/been in gallardo coupes several times, and they just dont have that sex appeal to me.
Thanks Gary, You're right, I hear the 360s and 430s are more reliable as far as we know, but then again, the gremlins in 355/TR ownership only started to show up a couple years after they stopped production - when I got my 355 in 2000, the Ferrari guys all told me it was the best and most reliable car Ferrari had ever made - 2 years, 4 exhaust manifolds, 4 shocks, 3 shock actuators, 8 connecting rods/ bearings, 40 valve guides, 20k miles and one complete engine rebuild later, I have a different story to tell. The same can be true for Gallardo reliability (unproven), but I am definitely more inclined to trust Audi/VW engineering and reliability after the trusty Audis and VWs I have owned. And to top it off the G has outstanding looks when the 430 seems too similar to the 360. My $0.02. The 430 is a great car, however, and that can't be dismissed. It'll be a great rivalry for some time to come.
Great post and I think true right down the line. There are some troubling early warnings on the 360's. Pricey fuel leaks, structural issues when driven hard.... I'm going to get flamed for it but I still am having a hard time warming up to rear on the 430. I guess I'm retro but I just love the big round tail lights on the 360's and back. I've got a G and there's not a lot of history but the car feels mechanically solid. We'll see. Life's good when you can debate the merits of Lambo's vs. FCars.
In my opinion the G-Spyder is just a far better looking car I get mine in June and have just got rid of my Ferrari Spider. Unlike most of the people who have commented hear I've spent a lot of time driving the 430, and I just don't think it's in the same league as the new Gallardo. I'm sure that on a circuit the 430 is a better car, but if like me you use your car everyday for driving to work in a city there is simply no competition However it's worth noting that at the end of the day if dealing with Ferrari in regards to my 430 order were not such a joke, put together with the reliability disaster of my 360 I would never have considered moving to Lambo. What I've found is that Lamborghini sales are a great bunch of people to deal with - Ferrari would do well to note this and stop pissing off their customers
I'm sure this varies in both the Ferrari and Lambo worlds. In my experience, FoSF is absolutely great to work with, and I'm new to the Ferrari world (bought my first F in 2004). The local Lambo dealer (now closed up) couldn't have been less interested when I walked in to compare the Gallardo to the 360. Gary
agreed! going from a 360 to a 430 just isn't different enough for me, that's why i'm leaning toward the lambo.
The market speaks as to exactly how many true enthusiasts actually buy these cars for over sticker, or exactly how many are just looking to make a buck. Funny how Zero cars are available new, but 100's used. Funny how someone like myself could have gotten a 430 immidietely, at sticker. Funny how only the 360/430 retains its value initially, as all the others TANK. Funny how Ferrari guys who do pay over sticker never factor that into the LOSS as the car depreciates. In the future, 360's/430 will be worthless.
Geee, little Ellen, you surely failed marketing 101. Enthusiasts? Since when does to whom you sell a product make it a success or not? Seems to me, and anyone with a modicum of intelligence, if you can mfr. & sell a product consistently above MSRP for the entire production run of the product, and do this again and again, and even have people waiting in line to get one of these products, that's a marketing success; marketing a good product properly. If the market (read consumers, Ellen, whether they be enthusiasts or specualtors) continues to invest in this company's product, time and time again, that obviously says something very positive about the product. Your continued tiring & boring explanation of 'brand brainwashing' just doesn't cut it. You, personally, may be able to be fooled again and again by 'good marketing of a bad product' but I ain't buying that explanation where the majority of Ferrari owners are concerned. Again, as initially stated, the market has clearly spoken, Ellen. Do ya understand that yet? Get over it. If not, just take your banal diatribe (I'll pause here so you can look that up) somewhere where they're buyin' it.
You are wasting your time arguing with this guy. You'll have a better chance to convert Osama to Christianity....
LOL! Oh, I know. It's just so much fun to slap him around a bit like the "little Ellen Lame-O" that he is. I find it to be most entertaining. So very easy to do and it kills some time. Some times you just have to keep slappin' until they wake up and face the world the way things are....whether they like to admit it or not. In the meantime, I'll continue to have my fun with him. But thanks for 'heads-up' anyway.
The market has spoken with the Gspyder as well. None to be had for MSRP and who knows when they will be.
Hey, I'll give credit where credit is due...for the moment, that is. If it keeps up throughout an entire production run of, say, 4-5 years, and they sell even close to the number of 430s that go for above MSRP, then they've done it right. However, ain't gonna happen.
