I'm no international expert; however I have noticed that many Asian people have little regard for personal space or territory.
Funny you should say that, my father has been working in Suzhou/Shangai for a couple month at a time during the past few years, and that's exactly what he said. There is no personal space or property. Maybe a consequence of decades of comunism, who knows? As for the solution, ask a friend (asian, preferably) to hide in the closet with some mega-gore make-up, and play dead. Ask your chinese neighbour to get you something in the closet. Watch her run convinced you are a psychotic killer. Laugh. Sleep.
She's really good about asking to use my stuff before using it... she's just not so good at knocking, or recognizing that if I am sleeping or doing homework, it may not be the most opportune time to ask for immediate assistance. Anyway, I just spoke with my host mom, and her days here are numbered. She's out of here on the 29th.
Go away for a weekend, but before you do put the Barking Jingle Dogs album on repeat. Run the sound through the biggest speaker you can find which you'll place against the wall and turn the bass up. Trust me, she'll never speak to you again.
Actually, I am getting away this weekend! I'm doing a pair of cultural trips with the school to Cordoba and the beach (I'm sure there is culture there somewhere.) The plan won't work, however, since the girl has decided to come along.
