I currently have a carfax account and if anyone is considering purchasing a Ferrari coming up I would be happy to run the VIN. I actually purchased my carfax subscription to check the VIN of my New Ferrari. Just pm me with the VIN and an email address to send it back to.

I'd suggest that is sort of uncool. Being in the software business, I don't go for this type of thing. CarFax makes money by selling their information which I'm sure is costly to obtain, aggregate and verify. (IMHO).

Maybe, but I wonder if it violates the Carfax license agreement (provided he's not making money by running VIN's people submit).

Then maybe they should change the way the service operates to prevent this instead of expecting people to care what a license agreement says.

When I signed up for the one month Carfax license when purchasing my Ferrari I understood from reading the offer (who reads the whole agreement?) that you can use the service as much as you want for 30 days. It doesn't say you can't help a friend or aquaintance find info during your 30 day unlimited use. If they want to put limits on the use, why call it a 30 day unlimited use license??? They kind of get you excited about the unlimited use part to get you to pay the $30 or whatever. I think they will make out okay if you run some numbers for people here on Fchat. In fact, how is it that people here constantly post all that carfax type info on cars people are thinking about buying?

This is unreal, you guy's drive, or hope to drive very expensive cars and balk at $30.00 I agree it's a big ripoff to Carfax and you can try to justify it however you want but, what would you think if it were your business?

I would be more clear if it were my business and I did not want this type of thing to happen. It seems like the business is more concerned about getting the $24.99 fee than getting an accurate picture of what you are buying. If there are 'limits' on the use they are not hinting at that when you select to purchase 'unlimited reports'.
After you put the initial vehicle VIN in their system the options it gives you are:
"Unlimited Vehicle History Reports for $24.99"
    Or
"Single Vehicle History Report for $19.99"
Seems to me they are asking you to buy the option of using their service without 'limits' for $24.99 I think this is what the original poster bought, so what is the problem? Unless their user agreement that is referenced puts 'limits' on it, then how can they offer 'unlimited reports' and then limit the reports??? So confusing. I say be more clear in the initial offer if you want to limit the buyer's use of the service.
And BTW I did buy the service when I was shopping for my Ferrari. I just don't think that anyone is doing anything wrong by offering to use a service they paid for to help others out. If you rent a car and offer to give a ride to someone you met on the plane is that unfair to the rental car company??? I think not.

I am a dealer and I provide Carfax reports on all of my vehicles. Carfax will not grant me the $24.99 unlimited use, instead I pay $45 for my 1st 5 and $9.95 each for the rest. I carry about 200-250 cars in stock at all times. I get charged this everytime I pull a report even if it is the same car multiple times, I listed a car on Ebay and provided a link to look at the Carfax and I got dinged 52 times. It adds up real fast. I think if you have "unlimited use" you should provide one to every person you pass on the way in to work and your lunch break, but take a breather on the way home.

Most in here have 3X8's which are hardly "very expensive".

I was doing it as a favor to help out fellow chatters. $30 is $30. Anyway, I won't do it if it makes you happy.

My only issue with your statement is that I have a feeling you have "borrowed" some of the workshop manuals online or used sections of them.

BTW I didn't ask for your opinion.

I think it's a nice offer and appreciate it. It's not so much the $30, but why waste your time even purchasing it if you don't need to. Have any of you ever borrowed a rented movie from someone and watched it? Same idea. If Carfax was really concerned with this happening, they would limit the amount of vin checks you get. I say carry on, and thanks for the offer.

He ran a carfax report for me a few months ago... on a cadillac no less.... If he coughed up his own $$ for unlimited access then he can use said access however he sees fit. I commend him for choosing to use it to help others out, we need more people like him!

Just a heads up, don't go over 40 reports, once you go over 40 reports you have to agree to this term stating that if you are not using this for your own personal use only that they have the right to charge you for all previous 40 reports. I quit right there just because I didn't feel like getting charged $800+. It's a nice thing to do for others in my opinion but only to an extent. Some people look at 15-20 cars before they buy one, just a thought.

Anyways thanks for the offer, but re-read the terms you agreed to, not because I care about carfax making money I just don't to see them charging you for every fax.
