I know Keith (4redno) and he is a very straightforward/upfront guy. He spent an awful lot of time, money, and energy restoring his beautiful Dino (which won Platinums at national FCA events) and we inspected each others' cars (his early GT and my later GTS) comparing the differences, some of which were pretty subtle. Believe me, if Keith says his pouch is original, it is.

Thanks for the kind words Mark. Shawn in response to your question, the area on the back of the pouch where the damage is looks to have been caused by paint. I'm guessing the guilty party tried to remove the paint with some solvent which removed the paint and the shinny top layer of the leather in that isolated area. It could of course be the work of a bird - if you've ever washed a Dino and left it out in the sun, birds use it for target practice. If the owner left the pouch on the car, birds might have been using it as the bullseye in their bombing raid. Damn birds.

While you could be correct, just look at the poor writing abilities that spawned this skepticsm. Many Ebay bidders have been burned and are hesitant yet these words only fuel disbelief:

"I believe it is correct for a 1972..."
Mark (above) claims you are an expert and you are adding doubt about the authenticity.

"The stitching, clasp and strap are as new."
That word "new" has heightened my thoughts about this being a repro

"The interior vinyl lining is in very good condition..."
Mark knows you are an expert and now you claim the interior is vinyl.

I'm sure these are simple mistakes and your item is probably correct, but when you write ad copy, think of your target audience. They will want to know exactly what they are getting and very suspicious of Ebay sellers.

Apologies if this was overly cynical.

Apologies on casting doubt, his words were his downfall (vinyl interior in the pouch?) and I wouldn't touch a$3500.00 Ebay auction with that amount of inconsistency. Obviously he is doing well without it.

Synchro. Thanks for your constructive criticism. Let me explain my choice of words:

I believe it is correct for a 1972..." I can't be sure when one pouch replaced another. Experts on Ferrarichat claim that this pouch is correct for a 1972 car but if someone had a late 1971 car or an early 1973 car, I can't categorically state if the pouch is right or wrong for their car. I don't claim to be an expert, just someone who knows enough to know there has to be room for interpretation with Ferraris of this period.

"The stitching, clasp and strap are as new." This means they look so darn good, it's as if they were new. I'm Canadian - perhaps our english is different.

Wspeer, the father of this thread described the inside of the "Type 3" pouch as vinyl. While the lining of the earliest Dino pouch is silk, these type 3 pouches have thick, inside lining which may indeed be vinyl or some sort of faux silk. If you can shed some light on what this magical material is, I'm all ears but I think Shawn may be correct.

As a guy who makes a living in marketing, I always try to think of my audience and try hard not to oversell them. If my honesty reads like inconsistency to you, than we will have to agree to disagree.

    Cheers...Keith

I have read this thread and searched F-chat and appreciate the knowledge on these pouches that has been demonstrated. I am in the market for a pouch but I am not shure what to look for. I suspect that a Ferrari rather than a Dino pouch would be correct. Or did the car have the pouch with both Dino and the prancing horse (like the early 308 GT4s?). This one is from the testarossa, and I suspect if I can find something similar it would probably be Ok. I am thinking of getting the repo from chico off of e-pay.

based on the fact that you show a 308gt4 on your avatar and have as a heading 78-80 as the year model, you are looking for a series 3 308gt4 pouch.

the pouch you show in the photo wasn't around until the mid 80's. a correct pouch for your car would be a cloth style pouch with the suede-like interior, similar to a 308gt (b/s) pouch. there are two versions, the earlier version is correct for your car. it has a fabric outer cover with a combination of horses and olive branches (?) in pattern along with the ferrari logo. they are fairly easy to find.

i think you are far better off looking for the pouch, as they come up frequently, rather than buying a repro pouch that isn't even correct for your car.

that is the correct fabric. the leather looks lighter than the pouches i have seen, however, that could just be due to age/photography/????
