When replacing a head gasket, would you add any extra gasket dressing to it (say, like Hylomar)? Is this any different for a Ferrari than a Honda? Thanks.

ps: I'm currently practicing on a Acura Integra, but someday ....

I have never used anything on or heard of the need to do it on head gaskets on Ferrari motors. I'm not a professional so maybe Rifledriver or someone else could chime in here. Regards, Vern

The bazillion-dollar head gaskets come with some red sticky (that's a technical term) around the water passages, so that provides seal.

Never apply anything to a factory composite headgasket unless specified by the manufacturer. Special dressings can cause the headgasket or any other gasket to "squirm" around and fail.

Yea, don't ya love the price of those things. The last time I saw a price on a 355 gasket it was around 250.00@. Hummm.. Red stickey stuff, sounds ok to me for a description HaHaHa. Regards, Vern

No coatings whatsoever......just make sure the two surfaces (head and block) are both very clean and dry and you will have a good result.

    regards, Jim
