The worst is allegedly the Aberdeen Steakhouse family.....

Beyond that it depends where you are staying exactly

There is other safe food in London besides steak !

    Try the Guinea Grill
    http://www.theguinea.co.uk/

It's between New Bond Street & Berkeley Square (Mayfair)
There is a load of history to the place - it is famous for it's steaks. Google the name and you will find rave reviews.
I haven't been in 10/12 years but its reputation lives on.

It was originally owned by 2 brothers and was popular during the second world war with the US Embassy Staff/Serviceman. The brothers had a falling out & split the bar/restaurant down the middle. My memory is murky but there used to be a Guinea Pub and the Guinea Grill.

I'm a vegetarian, so I wouldn't even think of going there, but I've heard that El Gaucho in Chelsea Farmers Market (Sydney Street) is good.

I agreem, the Gaucho Grill is good, Argentinian beef. There's one in Hampstead and some others. And, for a better class of Indian, try The Bombay Bicycle Club.

Gaucho gets my vote too! There's a few of them around tow (most central one I can think of is right next to Picadilly Circus), and the steaks there are awesome. They bring out a platter of meats and describe what each of the cuts are - its quite educational!

The wine list is also very good!

    Enjoy your trip.

    All the best

It seems El Gaucho and Gaucho Grill are totally unrelated but it should be good as a few people have recommended it. :D

What is the point of coming from overseas to go to the Gaucho - it's just a chain

There is better food but the Guinea Grill is unique - try that

If you want the best steak go for a Kobe beefsteak at Zuma (btw its not on the menu, Nobu will also do this for you if you ask)- but thats not in the same price range as the other suggestions

I suppose you did ask "tell me what is the best steak house in London" - you could have mentioned that you had no intention of eating there!

I had every intention to have a steak while in London. However, given my short stay and sudden craving for good, sorry Great, Chinese food. I just had to do what I had to do...eat Chinese. Lobster noodle, aromatic duck, char siew, fresh scallops in soyu and herbs, fresh baby kai lan... what can I say?

But I will be back in June Andy... and I will have that steak you recommended.
