    Jim,
The shear strength of the bolts, rating for the chains, rating of the U bolts, depth of the bolts in the block, cast iron material of the block, and flush mounting of the bolts should be more than enough for the Dino motor and transmission. I copied the idea from another Ferrari chatter a year ago. He used the same setup without any problems.

I work with air operated valves which employ actuators having a single stem with same diameter of one of the bolts. They easily take 300 pounds of force without any damage, as long as the thread engagement is greater than the diameter of the bolt. In our applications the clamping of the stem is not even the full 360 degrees. I haven't done the exact math on the Dino lift, but I feel more than safe with the method I copied.

It all comes down to using a method an individual feels comfortable with. I felt comfortable with the setup I copied from another Dino person. I noted no problems and distortation of the chain links at all.

Thanks for bringing up your observation. Providing another viewpoint is always helpful and encourages discussion on a topic which is important.

    Regards,
    Rich

Rich - thanks for the information. I am sure that the setup will carry the load, as several, if not many have done it that way. I prefer to use nylon rope, and run it through the four tabs on the heads, thereby distributing the weight across both heads. The rope will not scratch the aluminum valve covers or heads, etc.

Your approach is quicker, cleaner and easier. Old habits die hard.

Jon - thanks for all of the pictures, they will be of great help upon reassembly. I may come down next week.

My car received its first coat of paint and clear yesterday. We are letting it sit for a few days, then sanding and respraying.

If you need hydraulic fittings and tubing, I have a great source. Let me know.

I never found out and neither of my mechanics knew that cross strut came out! Damn! They cursed it many times but the engine has been out and in 3 times now with the strut firmly in place. We all get smarter, eventually. These pictures are a Godsend. Thanks Jon.

Pietro - love your color (uhmmm),

I notice the button light on the front (directional signal). I am debating whether to mount it or not, that is, to leave the side directional button-light off the car. What are your thoughts?

Is this light larger than the door-edge light that illuminates when the door is opened?

You are in Glendale? - We should get together. Want to come down on Saturday?

    Thanks.

Sorry, my whole life is packed up for a remodel. I'd be hard pressed to find anything that's not absolutely essential if my life depended on it. I've got about another month to go. Can't be soon enough!

If I come across some pics, I'll post them.

The nicest people are on Ferrarichat. Today a fellow chatter and Dino owner brought me this shirt to wear while I'm working on the car. Pretty cool!

Yes, I made a batch of around 100 shirts because I wanted a couple and did not like what was out there. You can email me at ajmarton at comcast.net for details. Andrew

Jon - thanks for the pictures and measurements on the button lights. I spoke with Bill at GT Car Parts today. The new (directional) lights that he sent to you are the same that he sent to me. As you illustrate, they are larger than the door edge light. The original directional side lights are smaller than the ones he sent to you and me. He states, and as I recall from my Euro model, that the original side directional lights are the same as the door edge light. However, the reproduction version of the door edge / directional light is not as "refined" as the original, and hence he sends the larger version that you photographed. I am entertaining sending back the larger button lights, purchasing a set of smaller lights, and using my door-edge lights as directional lights, and using the new reproduction as door-edge lights. Make sense?

On the other hand, I may leave the lights out altogether.

Just a heads up. Thanks for the info.

    Jim

I believe your directional fender light should be the same as for the Dino Spyder 2L. I have a spare set that I am reconditioning and can take some pics for you. Andrew

I made a handful in the Royal Blue that look great. But it is my special "reserve" stock of shirts. Email me for details. I am not really interested in selling them but will entertain a couple of requests.

Are your lights the same as in the photo above, where the door light is red and the marker light is orange? Do I understand correctly, that swapping them would put a red light for the marker light?
