I just heard he's going to put back the 55mph speed limit starting with selected areas on the Turnpike. Oh and he's thinking about eliminating the mandatory full serve at the gas pumps. Do you think that will actually bring the price of gas down the estimated 6 cents? Not!

Jimmy Carter is back! Hopefully, this time the rabbit will win the battle in the lake.

heh, the "plan" is to suspend gas taxes for 60 days and drop the state speed limit to 55 also to allow for self serve gas. Even though they wont say it the dropping of the speed limit is not to "save gas" or help consumers get "better mileage" its to compensate for the loss in tax revenue with bigger tickets. Now driving down the turnpike you can get a 78 in a 55 ticket which is cruising speed and would be a 6 point ticket.

Come on, Rob. cruising speed on the tpk is 85. I was on it last week a bunch of times for long stretches- Slow lane- "cruising" and people were blowing my doors off.

But you are right on the money. Bigger tickets, bigger insurance sur-charges, need more police, yada yada...sounds like big goverment to me.

Time to write the govenor a letter.

    Yo, Cozy Corzine ;
Johnny, where's your head at??? Pop it out for a breath of fresh Jersey air.

Also, IMHO: a $100 check is pretty much nothing. A one-shot deal. Suspending the gas tax for 60 days is nothing. pump-your-own-gas savings is a farce. Especially since Johnny wants to up other taxes to cover a deficit. Keep the money. Apply it to the deficit & don't raise one of my other taxes.

DO raise the registration on SUVs by 400%. You want a pig..errr big car, then pay. You want a "camper" the size of a greyhound bus....then pay. Oh, and CUT local/county/state workers & salaries & retirement benefits. Do like the rest of the country....more with less.
    [ok, off my soapbox]

Self serve is great i think. I know it would cut thousands of jobs, but in this area i believe that most of the gas pumpers are the owners/family of owners of the station so i dont think the numbers would be as staggering as the statistics would suggest.

I hate full serve because as we all know, how many times do you pull in and sit there for frickin 10 mins before you are even acknowledged?? NJ is the only FULL SERVE state. Other states have a full serve option with higher prices, why cant NJ?

As for the 55MPH, i think someone already hit the nail on the head; HIGHER TICKETS = MORE REVENUE for our broke ass state. They might as well make it 45mph. That would increase fuel economy even more. Or better yet, 35MPH! That tank would last 3 weeks. And everyone would be fired from their jobs due to tardiness.

Who voted for this guy?! And what was the headline a week or so ago about the 7% sales tax (again, NJ is dead broke)-- CORZINE SAYS TO HOUSE "I WILL NOT WAIT FOR YOU". What does he think this is? A one man show? Process no longer exists when he is governor? He better learn his role and not forget what he is.

He's a public servant! Now go get me a glass of water, Corzine

Most workers at "full service" stations don't even walk around to the driver's side window anymore, clean the windows or offer to check the oil. Most just stand by the passenger side window and wait. And this after I have been sitting in my car for 5 minutes. How is that for SERVICE? Let me pump my own gas.

Sorry for the rant. It just came out.

He was a c0cksucker at Goldman Sachs, he was a c0cksucker in the Senate, and now he is a c0cksucker in the Governor's mansion.

Any surprise that I am getting rid of my Princeton house and moving over the border to Bucks County, PA?

Corzine has always been a helpless *****.

I wouldn't mind self-serve though. It's painful watching most of these guys fumble around with the nozzle. You wouldn't think anyone could make pumping gas difficult. I mean, they do this for a living, and yet they still have trouble. It's unbelievable.

The fuel consumption gauge in my bimmer says I get the best mileage in 6th gear around 75-80mph.

I'd have to drop 2 gears to cruise at 55mph...save gas my a$$ lol

As for self-serve, it wouldn't make a difference for me. I worked at a gas station for over 3 years, everyone there knows me so I pump my own anyway. I feel bad if it ends up screwing some of my friends out of a job, though. Most of our business came because of local kids who work well and are sociable.

At 55, that's borderline between 4th and 5th gear for me. It's almost bogging territory in 5th.

Who knows where this will lead things.
