A Drive through Paris


On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a
gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend,
a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart
of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the
course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of
Sacre Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.
The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly
140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights,
nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way
streets.

Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was
arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film
went underground until a DVD release a few years ago.

A massive re-post. But it doesnt bother me. I seen the video for the 1st last month and absolutley love it. Whether or not it was 275. I love it.

 

Yeah, it was a massive repost when I put it up here 6 months ago, but everyone still enjoyed it and there will certainly be some who have not seen it. Even if doctored, it's and awesome joy ride.

 

It's not a Ferrari 275. I read it was a Matra. Also it really isn't going all THAT fast down the boulevards.

 

Wasnt it an Alpina or something like that?

 

True it is not going that fast...it only hit 136MPH once

136MPH? Not even close. The supposed physics analysis, previously posted, has been thoroughly shot full of holes. Stick a camera about 6 inches from the ground on a Vespa, and EVERYTHING appears to be going by at 136MPH.

 

Doesn't make the film sound very romantic anymore thinking it could be a Vespa ;-)

 

Its funny how many different cars are mentioned about this film, its probably a citroen 2cv dubbed over, I still love watching the fil, I guess it will be reposted for years to come and the guessing will go on and on and on and on and on and well you get the picture ;-)

Me too.

 

This was I driving spezial Merzedes car with big big engine I build. I think this maybe my best drive with no fender bender. This was real speed so no spezial effect needded. My good friend Katia is girl at end, she very excited when I arriv. Hope you like.

 

I've seen this claim before, but I'm wondering if anyone actually heard the filmaker say that? If not it's just one of the many rumours surrounding this film. Though you can see he was not going that fast after going through all 5 gears and the engine at full song.
