You've got to be kidding! Conan is a TOTAL DWEEB! He is not funny! His monolog delivery is unbelievably weak - he has no "presence"! He always starts out with his lame, "We've got a great show tonight" crap.
Did you see him last night? He was making all kinds of retarded, contorted faces, and "***" movements with his arms! Totally Disgusting! The only thing that's funny are the skits with the mouth's talking behind someone's picture!

All the talk about which car is faster is silly anyway, there's no place....Especially in LA to prove it. Road space is shrinking by the day, yet cars get faster all the time.... ya that's gonna last.

As far as big shots and their car collections, there are a lot of rich guys who jump on the collectable bandwagon and buy up everything, then hire their "shop guy" to take care of everything while they brag about being a big collector. There was one Corvette guy who owned a mint example of every car from 1953 through about 1972. His collection was in all the magazines. But then I believe it all fell apart and/or he lost interest and sold everything. I know of another big collector who moved on to other things. For many, the fancy cars are the "flavor of the year" then they move on.

I find it interesting that Letterman is always remembered as the Ferrari guy, but his former audio technician, Tom Yang, is the one who actually has a web site devoted to the restoration of his own Ferrari, as well as a bulletin board for vintage Ferrari buffs. (If I was Letterman, I think that I'd move to my Montana ranch permanently and tinker with my cars all day long, far from the rat race of NYC.)

I remember that, he had a silver 456m. I only met him once at the dealership and he made it quite clear that I didn't even deserve to be in his presence. Wow. What's the psychoanalyitical term for God Complex?

I used to be a HUGE Conan fan. He had great comedy bits. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog is pure genius, but that's Bob Smigel, not Conan. The .......... Bear is funny, the first 10 times. But he's a terrible interviewer, and his monologue is insufferable because of his silliness. The silliness is like salt, a little makes your favorite food taste great, a lot makes it terrible.

Conan is a great comedy writer, terrible talk show host.

Well, you don't want to see me with a wrench in my hands. It is not a pretty sight. Yes, in my younger days, I worked on my own cars and motorcycles because I had to. Freedom is just another word and all that.

However, nowadays, I have decided that I'm much better off working than stripping nuts. You see, I make more than what my Ferrari dealer charges me to work on my car. In the end, everybody wins. I get my toys fixed correctly, avoid bloody knuckles, and the dealer gets to pay the rent.

Seeing how Letterman and Seinfeld make much w-a-y-y-y more than I do, don't you think that it would be rather silly for them to bust a few knuckles and hurt their backs instead of doing what they do best?

Does someone need to work on cars or be able to drive like Schumacher to have a real affection for cars.

I really don't understand what one has to do with the other.

Ahem, I seem to remember that over the last couple of years a certain Detroit car, out performing a certain Car from a Maranello. I beleive this year the Ferraris are still getting their asses handed to them in the ALMS and the DBR-9's are just making everyone cry. Oh, and guess who owns them? Ford another american company....

EDIT: seriously though, im not trying to flame at all, that is not my intention here. BUt it seems that a few of you that are getting upset over what leno has said are just mad because he doesn't like the company that your favorite car came from? Am i right? If i wasn't why would you go through the trouble to make such a thread....

I agree that when you are a young fella, you obviously dont have alot of money to throw around,so you have to work on your own cars. But no matter how much money i will ever make,i will always work on my own cars. I have the trade and i am very capable. But why pay someone else, when you can do it yourself and if you do it yourself, you will always do a better job for sure on your own car, cause you have all the time in the world to work on it,as its in your workshop or driveway :D But i can understand for the guys that have not got the time,or the skills. Then again,im sure there plenty of guys that will agree with me that arent mechanics that will get in there and also have a go with their own cars :D

Whether he loves Ferraris or not, Leno is at the top of my list of car guys. I would rather spend 2 hours with Jay Leno than any other celebrity in tinsle town. Were it not for his considerable lobbying efforts and celebrity clout a few years back, California's collector car community would now be dragging their pre-'75 cars into the DMV every year for smog testing. He was enormously helpful to us and I for one will always be grateful to him for those efforts.

My opinion is, Leno's, being available to the highest bidder as it is, is worthless, and "Dr." Phil is a eunuch Oprah.

Leno may indeed know cars, but we'll never truly know because everything he says on or off stage was written and paid for.

I don't dislike Dr. Phil because he no longer drives a Ferrari. That is his choice and as far as I am concerned, the Z06 is the best performance car for the dollar spent that you can get. GM did something good here.

I dislike Dr. Phil because of the attitude he had when I met him and how he expected me to bow in his prescence and do what he directed. Sorry, cannot and will not do that.

Hey Evan, good to see you are still on here and remember that happening also. Sort of gives it some credence...................

Nicholas Cage is the real car guy. The Ferraris you see him driving in his movies are his personal cars, not something the transportation department came up with.

Letterman has a good number of Ferraris, just doesn't talk about them much. 156mm is one of his earlier cars.........

If that's true, then it's funny Cage mentioned that, because they used 3 stunt Fiero 355 replicars. You can even see him shift the Fiero automatic transmission into drive.

i think it's a bit stoopid to judge someone as a car guy as to whether they turn a wrench on weekends or not.

years ago, i did it nearly everyday keeping my poor little fiat alive. nowadays, i don't have the time and i'm happy to have those wrenching times as memories and pay someone WHO'S GOOD AT IT to do it for me.

i can't begin to fathom how much less time these other people have available to them, but i dare say they've got better things to do than wrenching a cool car... such as DRIVING it perhaps?

that said, i can't wait to free up some time so i can go spend some time with a mate of mine on sunday arvos and fix up our dumb cars over a few beers, a bbq, and lots of over-exaggerated stories.

For those of us who consider wrenching on cars a critical part of the car ownership experience, we automatically "look down" on those who do none of their own work.

For those of us who think "there is Ferrari and then there is everything else", we automatically want to disparage those who don't see Ferrari as something even worthy of owning.

Car enthusiasts come in many varieties... while I might consider myself a "true" Ferrari fan for doing all of my own work on my 308, that doesn't make my buddy who never turns a wrench on his 456a any less of an enthusiast... just as Leno is neither more nor less of an enthusiast for holding a very public grudge against our favorite marque.

We're free to ridicule his opinion (just as I might suggest that a "real" Ferrari has Webers and a manual transmission) but not his enthusiasm. He has been a real friend to the collector car world.

Whether Letterman or Dr. Phil have been a better "Ferrari" fan, neither has had the impact that Leno has on our hobby.

I've owned two C5 Vettes, a Viper, and now my Testarossa. I will put the new Z06 up against any Ferrari, including the new 430 (which I have not been in, only read the reviews). I think the new Z06 is THE best bang for the buck sports car in the world, and I'm very proud that it is built by Americans in the United States. Chevy really stepped up on this vehicle.

Dr Phil's opinions on anything, particularly cars means nothing. Leno is a certified car and motorcycle guy and he is entitled to his opinion.

I knew when I traded my Viper in on an 88 Testarossa, that I was losing a tremendous amount of power, and capability, and I also knew that I was giving up my #3 spot in line for the new Corvette Z06.

But in about an hour, I'll warm up the Testarossa, regret the fact that it is still filthy from me driving it for about 3 weeks without washing it, regret the fact that I still haven't put on the new fog lamp cover from Ricambi, wonder if the sounds I'm hearing mean my 1000 miles on the 30,000 mile engine out missed something, wonder if my tire pressures need looking at since the ride is hard as a rock.

Then I'll find an excuse today to drive somewhere further away than my office. There must be something I need over at the ocean.........

The one thing I won't be thinking of is whether the Z06 will outhandle my Testarossa. The question isn't relevant to the experience.

Folks, I define Ferrari owners are formerly smart people doing incredibility stupid things with their money. There is no way to justify the incrementally dumb money we spend on these cars.

Let's compare a tricked out $100k Z06 to a stock $200K F430. Is the F430 a better car? Of course. Is the F430 a $100K better car than the Z06? Of course not.

So how do you rationalize buying the F430? The answer is that you don't.

You buy a Ferrari because (1) you can, and (2) you want to.

The justification comes later when you have the car on your favorite back road or the track. This is the point where it all becomes worthwhile. All the money. All the BS. Everything that you had to go through to get to this point. Driving a well-prepped Ferrari at speed is an experience than can only be found in the driver's seat of a Ferrari. In my limited experience, no other sports car provides the same feeling.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what anyone else says, good or bad. All that matters is getting out of the car after a hot run and realizing that you just had one of the best experiences of your life.
