The new McLaren F1 successor will not come from McLaren. I believe it can only come from a billionaire visionary with a skunkworks attitude and a desire to win at Le Mans. Only a few of those people exist. Look at Vern Rayburn with the Eclipse VLJ jet? That makes building a car look easy and it costs less than a used McLaren F1. I think we've surpassed the point of a responsible car company building a supercar to succeed the McLaren F1.

It's possible to make a McLaren beater simply because material costs, availability and tooling have improved so drastically since 1993, not to mention engineering talent.

what is the market value of the mclaren today? has it fallen within the last 2 years or gone up? How much of its value today is due to the mclaren's stats vs it's vaule as a collector's item?

If you don't include the tax and maintenance I don't think anyone who bought the mclaren brand new and held on to it would have lost a lot of $$.

#028 (the red one) sold for around $1.8mm a few months ago at SVAG according to some people. They have #014 (yellow ex-Brunei) for sale that had the same asking price on Ebay, but I think it's still for sale. I would say $1.6+mm is around the price a good standard road F1 would go for. The Brunei one wasn't well taken care of in its stay there, but it's in better condition now. Prices have definitely shot up recently, though.

This month's evo magazine featured an article about the Caparo T1 - "During the development, McLaren F1 designer and evo contributor Gordon Murray helped the team hone the advanced aerodynamics that give this car its astonishing 3g cornering potential"

So Murray is on the job, but it's not "Mclaren" per se. That's good enough for me

BUt T1 will never be a successor to F1, i wonder how practical it wil be for real life. Not to mention the look is rather, challenging. It's a racecar shape of some sort.

    Back to the tire question.

If the 1000bhp Veyron uses the PS2 why can't the newer (hypothetically speaking that it gets made) McLaren use it as well?

They should just put modern equipment into the McLaren, the hardware is just too outdated now. CCM brakes alone could keep it on the top of the list for another 5 years.
