Dawn Patrol: I was excited to knock out the obligatory break-in miles during the week so that I could have a great ride this weekend. And I did. I rose at 5 am (and I hate early mornings) Without coffee, I was on the road at 5:15 to get to the Gila Wilderness in New Mexico ( 125 miles away) with the goal of having 80 miles of esses all to myself. Well, there were no other cars, but there were a a bunch of critters: 3 foxes, 2 coyotes, 12 cows, 3 bulls, 5 deer, and a vulture. I believe these animals were God's way of controlling the speed of a new Ferrari owner. The handling of the car exceeded my expectations and the on-demand low end torque (without the turbo-lag of the X-50 ) was an absolute pleasure. Along the way home, I had to stop in Deming, NM, where 2 guys straight out of Deliverance got out of their 25 year old pick up truck to check out the car. They were polite, and called me "Sir" but at the same time had a sort of Pulp Fiction quality about them. Remember the scene with "The Gimp?" I was polite and answered a few questions....... "what did this run ya, about 60 or 70 large?" I gulped and said, "a little more, but I have been saving my whole life," and got the hell out of there faster than than you can say "dueling banjos." Got back to El Paso after 350 miles of driving and stopped at the local bike shop where some friends of mine hang out )at 10:15 am, gave my bike mechanic a quick ride, dropped him off and came home. 10 minutes later he calls me on the cell and lets me know, that 5 minutes after I left, 2 cop cars and 3 mototcycle cops were circling his parking lot. He did not think it was a coincidence. Luckily the car was safely in the garage by that point , but is a good wake-up call. I have heard many stories about people going out of their ways to check out an F-car. The experience is in reality a bit freaky. I got a few thumbs-up with the Turbo, but this is ridiculous. But what is good is that the common thread among all the gawkers so far has been the word, Congratulations. And then the baby got its first bath. And it was good. ;-) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Great story .... Looking forward to reading similar episodes in future from you (well except the Delvierance bit of course )
Just 350! Happily, no back or neck soreness. Seats are better than Porsche 996 seats (standard or sport) for my body. I got some right leg numbness from them. This is the first car I've had in a while with out a cruise control fot the boring highway stuff. Tough to change postions. But it worked out just fine. Greg
I also do the same when I drive my CS here in Thailand. The differences are that I see may be 20 dogs, no less than 20 cows and water buffalos (domesticated), may be 50 scooters that ready to crash into me, a few drunk, a few monks, many trucks (also ready to crash into me), but no cops..ha ha ha. Nice story though, I wish we have similar roads here. All I can find within 100 km radius that is drivable (ie, fast run) is a few empty perfectly paved high way, a few small roads leading into rice paddy...all are quite in danger of either hitting something or someone or fall off the roads...HA...
