Not sure though, they sound like dead in the water:

"We are not going to build any more cars as they are working out to be very expensive and take too long to build. The two customer cars that have been and are being built will be the last. We are not going to make a kit available either as there is too much work required for very little reward. Sorry to disappoint anyone who thinks that they would like one of these. I am also not going to be releasing the moulds or panels from them. To give you an idea of what expensive is I have turned down USD 275k for my car as I can not build another one for that...."

    From their website: http://www.f40.co.nz/f40/index.htm

If it were legally so easy, why wouldn't they try to recoup some money by selling the moulds. Sounds to me like Ferrari Spa's lawyers are still pretty much in control.

So if somebody is serious about a F40 replica, I'd say buy one of those Fiero replicas, remove the body and put it onto a generic racing chassis with a nice Chevy small block and 500 hp. Then you have someting decent for track time.

Like the Berulys (sp?) F40 spider. Just slap it onto a tube frame and go!

This story surfaced in the UK a few weeks ago and seems generally to have been quoted verbatim, with little or any research by the newspaper or magazine concerned.

'Octane' magazine for July 2006 carries it - but a couple of pages later carries a story about an event called the Vernasca Silver Flag, a vintage event to be held in Castell'Arquato in Italy from June 30 to July 2, illustrated by photos in which David Piper's bitsa P4 (s/n 0900 - built from spares) is visible in the background.........and in the foreground is an obvious fake P4 with a flat-12 engine.

I was disappointed by Octane since they weren't critical enough. When you look at the picture it is obvious, that this politician was lying.

I also didn't like their comment about the P4 and P3/4 mentioning one remaining. Maybe I got this wrong, but it sounded to me like they were indirectly denying 0846 as a survivor. Then you turn the page on see Jim's new P5/6 Enzo (of course with the wrong pictures) and some more bickering about the controversial 0846.

Sounds to me that Octane is giving the Italian politician a lot more credit than Jim. :(

P 4/5. What's beyond strange is that I went on record months ago that the "photos" aren't close to being correct and yet they still ran them. As an aside the first real photo's will appear in Car and Driver on August 1.
