I've recently put my 16" wheels and QA-1 shocks on my 1980 308 and now I need to have it aligned. What figures should I use for street driving? I've done the "search" and have come up with several suggestions and would like to know what would work best. Thanks in advance.

Most alignment shops have the 308 specs in their computers...I know the Goodyear next to my office had the alignment specs for my 328, TR and 348 all in theirs...

I don't have my owners manual handy at this time. I know the specs are there, maybe I'm mistaken but I thought the alignment specs would change when I went from 14" wheels to 16".

No basically when you change wheel size it may throw out the original geometry thats why you need to readjust the alignment to bring back the new wheel back to its original spec.

Do I use my 14" wheel specs or do I use the specs from a model that came with 16" wheels?

First, I hope you are lowering the front end about 4 feet ;)

My impression is that the stock 308 alignment specs always run too little front camber and too much rear camber to promote understeer (and the 308QV rear toe-in spec is pushing towards the high side of street-practical). I found the most even tire wear on 7x16 and 8x16 QV wheels at:

front camber = -1.5 deg (which was maxed out on the stock lower A-arm mounts)
    front toe-in = 1.5~2mm
    rear camber = -0.75~-1 deg
    rear toe-in = 2~3mm

on my ex-308GTS. Of course, I really didn't have anything to compare it to, but it drove quite nicely IMO -- JME.

The original spec of the car regardless of the wheel size.

    Hi Walt
the Service Bulletin set on http://dino308gt4.com has alignment specs for many of the 308 series (and even some other Ferrari's as well). That should include 14" and 16" versions.

Changing the wheels and or tires does absolutely nothing to change the existing alignment. That is a function of the susension adjustment.

Your intended use of the car, i.e., how hard you you corner is much more a determining factor.

You can aim for maximum traction and go with a lot of negetive camber or tire mileage with a more upright camber setting.

Generally, the lower the tire aspect ratio, the more camber sensitive the tire is and the more important it is to get the camber fright for your use or mixed use of your car.

Caster and toe are relatively, (compared to camber) less important. Go with stock, untill you get better input.

I am not as much a hot dog as i thought, so i will probably run my 18 inch goodyear F-1s at /12 degree front and 1 degree rear camber with the 18 inch wheels on my 308

One thing that i know for sure is that god did not intend for a car to corner with positive camber.

    all the best,
    chris
