No race exhaust. I wish. It has quieter challenge exhaust which is the samething as spyder exhaust.

The 348 Spider exhaust is quite good...very little need to bump up the Spider's exhaust with aftermarket.

But...the cats on all 348's that have cats could stand a bump up to Hyper-Flow's.

I think there is slight hp gain from 300 to 312 (I don't know if all just from exhaust). You have two can (stage) exahust? I would think there are weight savings as well. You may want to look into after market like the on from Ricambi.

I have quieter version of challenge exhaust for 348. It has it's own part # in the challenge parts book and has Ansa stamped on it. I think it is identical to spyder. There was a race "exhaust" which was just straight pipe out of the cats. That would be nice to have, but I think really loud.

Yes, I have one like #1. It has Ferrari #156072 and Ansa stamped on underside. I think it is the same or similar to spyder exhaust.

My '94 challenge parts book does not have #5 listed or pictured. Where did you get that picture? I would like to have one, but I would be afraid it would be way too loud.

Got a spirited drive in 348TB euro spec with Tubis and all i can saw is WOW, the rawness, turn in, sound, feel, interior, all of it is just intoxicating, and not to mention the exterior design, did i forget the engine response and explosiveness over 5000rpm.......for the price, its a great SuperCar bargain!

NSX may have been more sophisticated and evolved, but it doesnt give me the same shivers........

my opinion is that a TR is probably the best value out there for exotics. for 50-55k you can get a pretty nice TR. it is an iconic ferrari with 12 cylinders, good power even today, somewhat expensive to maintain but has very nice looks. i don't think the TR has a sterling reputation either, so it is in a similar boat with the 348. but hey, let the naysayers have their say, we'll just enjoy what we have...for less!

I think this is it, although add bad press (both deserved and undeserved) to the mix. They suffer a bit for being caught between an iconic classic (308/328) and the widely admired F355.

As a Ferrari newbie looking for my first, I was nudged pretty firmly toward the 328 or 355. Having read a ton of posts here, it's obvious that a conscientious owner can have a great ownership experience with a 348, but the car has an image problem that magnifies its faults.

I agree. But the highest maintenance costs for a V8 are probably the F40(not really comparable) then the 355, then the 348???

No data to back this up, but I suspect a 288GTO would have higher maint costs than an F40...

    Anyone confirm or refute?

The F40 and 288 GTO are in a different price category altogether.

I think the relevant factor is the 348's maintenance relative to the 308-328. The 355 is likely to be a $90K-$100K car sold to an owner better able to cover its costs. The 328-348 are squarely in new Boxster territory, and I'd guess many of us who buy them aren't necessarily breaking a sweat about the price but have to pay attention costs of operation. Undoubtedly this hurts 348s a bit.

OTOH, the costs are ridiculous on all of these cars...

EDIT: Just walked in through the garage and took a glance. Whatever it costs is fine. ;)

    Hi
Im another aussie that wishes we could buy our cars at the great prices you yanks get to steal them for, If you look at Ferrari as a market it 's not the price you pay its the yearly running cost that knocks out 85% of all punters. 348s came out when the world was going through hard times late 80's into the 90's. Ive owned several Ferrari's and the 348 is the best value for money car on the planet, killer looks and speed to match. If it was such a bad car by the press, why did Ferrari keep 90% of its body shape when the releases the 355. As all future F cars come out with telephone number price tags, these gems will certainly rise in value. here a pic of mine 93 348Ts with speedline wheels and tubi

If you look at it, the 348 was considered one of Ferrari's failures post fact. Just look at issues of Cavallino, articles by Jeremy Clarkson when he first drove it etc... it was initially received very well.

I really wonder what happened in the early 90's though, not only was the 348 ultimately to receive a slightly negative reputation as compared with its forefathers and subsequent renditions.... Porsche faced the EXACT SAME PHENOMENON for its model of 911 at that time. The 1989-1994 Porsche 964 was considered a failure by many compared to its older generation 3.2 Carrera (same production period as the 328) and its subsequent replacement, the Porsche 993 (produced at the same time as the Ferrari 355 ).

I feel that the 1989-1995 sentiments towards the established sports manufacturers was indeed ultimately tainted by the production of the time of the Honda NSX, something which the automotive world had not been exposed to previously, and everyone was jumping on the bandwagon to suggest that an all whiz bank super car with Honda Civic practicality was ultimately what all car buyers wanted... only to later reverse their opinions at a time when the Ferrari 355 and Porsche 993 came out. The benefactors ultimately were the successors to the 348 and the Porsche 964....
