I believe I have a blown/intermittent short on the front driver side speakers. Volume from them is almost non-existent. All volume is coming from the passenger side speakers. Ferrari Tech stated this is normal operation and the cars are designed this way due to driver position?

If I put balance full left, almost nothing comes from the front, but full right is loud like it should be.

Seems like common sense and I have a driver speaker issue. Can anyone confirm the 'balance' of the Maranello speakers at 0 Fade, 0 Balance? I know the stereo isn't the best, even the hi-fi, but they should sound similar at full Front, Left only vs. Right only, eh?

Just need another Maranello owner's confirmation for a reality check. Think I will have to take the car to a sound shop to deal with this.

On my 550, I can adjust the volume left-right, front-back, to the same levels. The fronts aren't as loud as the rears because these are smaller speakers, but side to side they are the same.

I agree, the stereo in my 550 sucks ..... and AM reception is all but non-existent. I recently changed the OEM Becker to an Alpine w/XM Sat, also hoping for better AM reception. The overall sound quality was improved, but not the AM ... must be the ant.

My 575, when the speakers are showing zero fade or balance, all 4 speakers sound evenly balanced. Sounds to me like you have a problem

I hope I am not saying the obvious but be careful in selecting the sound shop.
I had the sound system upgraded in my 575 3 days ago.(Alpine IVA-D310+Nav
and rear speakers changed; fronts not done this time due to time issues.)

I got a rec from the F-car dealer and checked out the shop several times; mostly high end cars being done. I really had no idea how involved the install would be. Even without front speakers, a lot of wiring needed to be done and most of the interior on the right side, back shelf, trunk and gas tank bulk-head, and seat needed to be removed.

After watching most of the install, I can see how a Ferrari could suffer unintended electrical problems and damage to the interior. I am very pleased with the result and will have the fronts done soon.

Local dealer is hosing me on the warranty replacement I think. I won't even go into it about the dealer.

Will an aftermarket headunit fit in the same location as the Ferrari headunit? How deep is the stock one?

Can any of the wiring be re-used without tearing up the interior?
What size speakers does the 575 mount stock front/rear?
Is the 575 standard speaker size the same as the Hi-Fi?

If the suspected driver functions only intermittently, the windings on the voice coil have been burned, and the driver is N/G.

You can replace the driver or have it rebuilt. Sometimes the rebuilding is cheaper. I would have to see the driver to know for sure.

I am taking the drivers out of my 360 to replace them with my audio system, and upon doing so I can then tell you where the Ferrari drivers are made.

My guess is they are from Taiwan or China, but it is hard to speculate. With TRW and Delphi parts in my 360, even Ferrari is not immune from world supply of the low bidder.

I was stunned to read that the 599 offers a toilet paper constructed Bose audio system. This is reason enough NOt to buy the car!

And, BTW, "Ferrari Tech stated this is normal operation and the cars are designed this way due to driver position?" this is what many refer to as what exits the rear of a horse!

I am amazed that even Ferrari stoops to these low tactics to avoid responsibility! I thought only GM had that market cornered.

The after market head unit fits. I thought wiring could be re-used: wrong. My understanding is that there is no standard for wire harness or connections. Speaker size is 5.25" (130mm).

I drive alot and wanted in-dash nav. + better sound but no subs or aftermarket amps. I did not want to give up trunk space.

I chose Alpine IVA-D310 head unit and NVE-N872A nav system. Boston Acoustics speakers.

The 310mm speakers are made in Italy.

Bose in the 599! I want to vomit. Amar Bose is a marketing genius. >90% of the American public think Bose is the beat audio money can buy. As the saying goes; no highs no lows: must be Bose.

Ok so we have Italian speakers in an Italian car. Yipee we did it! I think, however, you meant 130 mm = 5 1/4" which is the same as the 360.

Yes Bose garbage. I hope it's only an option.

I think Bose learned his marketing from GM-keep telling them long enough and they will believe it!

He argued with so many people no one wanted his product. This why you see it primarily in the mass merchandising stores. You won't find it in independent shops. They know better!

575-M Nero let me know if I can help. What do you think of the BMC air filters? I just put them into my 360 today, but because of rain the car's still in the garage!

Love the BMC filters. It should def be worth 15HP and improved motor noise.

I know the headunit and Ferrari Amp is sub-par, but is it possible to get away with a component only replacement?
The wiring to the speakers should be ok to re-use, eh?

Only notes I've found re: the 575 'Hi-Fi' option:
'New high power stereo system with 8 speakers.
A 200 Watt, four channel amplifier with analogue signal processing.'

Think there was a manual included also... Will look...
I know there are tweets in the dash.

MB Quart components would be nice.
Not sure what kind of 'sub-woofer' they have hidden in the back. Anyone know the location or size of that 'hi-fi' sub?

I think I have a good local shop that can do the work.

Rear speakers look a bit smaller. Both are 130mm (x4) ?
Am thinking MBQ PCE213 and/or PCE210 as size permits for rears.

Check my web site as I am soon offering replacement Ferrari systems in steps. You can use the OEM head and CD player, but the audio will feed to a good amp.

Door speakers will be replaced with extreme quality drivers; 5 1/4" woofers have 2" voice coils and are 90 dB efficient and the tweeters are small for the oem locations. Separate crossovers will be supplied.

I have today pulled out my 360 head unit to check it. Some speaker wiring will be necessary to fully appreciate the advantages of the system. We will, however, provide OEM connectors to plug into the OEM radio which will then go to the amp.

The sub can be a variety of combinations covered in a faux leather or cloth material to match your interior.

Let me know what I can do.

    regards,

Did confirm it is 130mm x4 (5.25") components.
Front tweeters are in the dashboard.

Not sure where the 2 'Hi-Fi' subs are located in the back.

Let us know when u have a direct link replacement.
Not really looking to go to a heavier aftermarket sub. Direct replacement equivalent subs would be ok. I don't wish to add any weight to the car.

Is there any way to find the specs of the existing gear without tearing everything apart? What speaker depth will the stock 575 locations allow? Where is the existing 'Hi-Fi' Amp?

Head unit is a Becker Mexico model.

    OEM speakers are garbage

The amp is what's built into the Becker.

OEM wiring is not fully adequate.

    Sub adds little weight. It's a 6 1/2" driver with a 3" voice coil!

    OEM specs are useless.

You want quality speak with me. Want junk, can't help you!

Found the 575 Hi-Fi subwoofers in the trunk.

The cones fire down into the trunk. There is a vent going up near the 3rd center brake light area that vent into the cabin.

They seem to be 5.25" Mid-Bass style cones.
The have a plastic pod. Not sure if there is any auxillary amp for the subs in the rear. Fairly easy to access the sub pods. Should know when I pull it apart if there is any auxillary amp for the subs other than thehead unit.

I'm not good with wire gauge sizes, but the wire to the rear subs is fairly thick and looks like good copper. The speaker wire should be ok. I'm sure if I upgrade the components the main limitation will be the stock 'Hi-Fi' amp setup.

They call it an 8 speaker system.
2 Tweets in the dash, 2 5.25" Mid-Bass in front doors, 2 components in rear, 2 subs in trunk.

Only Q I'm unsure of is speaker mounting depth available in the doors and in the trunk. Sub pods are plenty large enough.

Recycling this thread which is nearly as old as our cars. (For sustainability reasons). I have bought a new head unit to replace the crummy Ferrari unit in my 575. I would like to replace the speakers also, and would like guidance on the dimensions of speakers to buy.

I have a 2004 575 with the standard hi-fi. I don’t wish to cut any more holes than there are already.

I will then give the head unit and speakers I buy to my garage to fit during my annual service. Advice appreciated. I just did the same thing with my 430, and the sound is far better, plus the usual Bluetooth functionality etc.

audison APX-5 work but focal do not fit in the rear spots
I would suggest taking it to an audio shop that has worked on a Ferrari
I added the audison AP4.9 bit amplifier in the trunk

That is really helpful, thank you, Steve. The car is going in this week and I was about to order the focals!

Yes it will be done by a specialist.

the Audison are available here - can I just check the APX5 worked for you front and rear?

I did not change tweeter as one must remove the dash to replace tweeter.

I tried focal K2 but their depth is too much. I tried a spacer to bring front of speaker farther into cabin, but would lose original look

Thank you Steve. Yes it looks from the technical specifications that the focals are around half a centimetre deeper than the Audioson. Other dimensions identical. I guess that would be enough to make the difference in fitting in what seem like very shallow apertures.

I have asked my dealer to bypass the tweeters rather than removing them, as the speakers you recommend have built in tweeters.

I will see how it sounds (above the Tubi back boxes) and then may consider the amp.

The latest from my Ferrari shop: they accessed front and rear speakers to find that the previous owner had already swapped them out for Focals. Which exact ones, I don’t know. But they fit in the factory spots. I have had the car nearly six years. So, no new speakers required, just dropping the Alpine head unit in place of the Ferrari/Becker original.

I will report back on how it sounds in due course.

    Hi,
Which Apline head are you using?
I’ve a couple if cars I’d like to update in the audio department and one is a 575 with a pioneer unit.
I’d quite like a flip screen for CarPlay or possibly the pioneer that ones phone attaches to.
I’m replacing speakers too as any bass causes awful distortion.
I too have a particularly loud exhaust. Fortunately switchable!
