Yellowbird, I really like the sketch and I like the new rear view as well. Give some thought to incorporating 3 lights instead of 2 to bring in the Dino heritage more than looking like the back of a 355. Also, I would love to see your front end design sketch. DO you have one yet? All, I like that Diva! But not for this car. Regarding Russ's comments about the proportions and the general feeling of making the car low and not making the front blunt, you are up against two big issues with modern car design. 1. European pedestrian safety laws requiring 4 inches or more of crumple space above the engine, which makes the fronts higher. 2. Bumper height requirements. You simply cannot make a car as low as the Dino or the 308, for example, anymore. It won't be street legal. Birdman
Luckily for us we're going to build a midengined car. We have to discuss what frontsuspension to use and where to place the radiator. It should be possible to create a very low front when we place two radiators on the side, or a horizontally mounted radiator in the front like Jim did on his P4/5. Lowering the centre of the front has the effect that the fenders/shoulders look higher. Like being with a woman, need4speed said... That's what I like to achieve on our Dino.
I realize that, but the crush space thing still applies to whatever is under the hood in front. And you can't get around the bumper thing either. Birdman
This is very open. I believe the buyer of this new Dino will not be the typical Ferrari buyer. Because of price, this car will attract a wider spectrum of individual, not necessarily a "car guy". For that reason, this buyer will have broad interests. Speaking of the ALFA V6, I don't think that you need a new gearbox, because, with the transverse layout of the engine you also get the gearbox. If you can up the power to 300-350hp., it shouldn't be that difficult, and keep the weight under 900 kg, the sound and performance of this sportscar could be orgasmic....
Usually the clearance zone refers to the engine (yes I know it's mid-engined !!) but also the catwalk/inner panels plus the suspension towers/geometry etc to get a true Euro Ncap rating. The front bumper height is dictated by the pendulem swing test for front and front-offset requirements (plus approach angles, cooling requirements headlight heights to meet Ece and Fed requirements) and don't forget to address the angle of the front bumper; for Ncap the angle is critical for leg/ankle breakage. Stick to the 430 height, proportions and headlamp/bumper protection offsets and you are in pretty good shape.
On the new XK, Jaguar have introduced a pyrotechnic bonnet which pops up in event of hitting a pedestrian to gain the required clearance. Further, I'm not entirely sure whether these regulations would apply to a new Dino - many European regs only apply to cars where they make over a certain number per year. Further Euro NCAP testing is not compulsory - car manufacturers chose whether or not to send their cars in - the NCAP result is then used more as a marketing tool to gain advantage over competitors. I'd doubt if any F-car (or Porsche, Aston, Maserati, other low volume European car, etc) has ever taken the NCAP test. PS: Michiel - nice to hear you agree with my thoughts, I look forward to seeing your sketches!
That would be great, introduce the coupe, sell out 3 years production, then come up with a spider/roadster version. Removeable panel like on the original.
wow....you decided to start off with yellow than the traditional red...great job!...it looks sooo awesome!
about the radiator (s) I was thinking in the front R&L bumper fender and save the rear space for a gearbox oil cooler Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can you illustrate this in some way? Are there any pictures or diagrams available? A GTS would be logical, but I like the idea of a roadster/spider more. Designers, please think of some roadster concepts while drawing the coupé. See the illustartion below. The system on the XK can be ordered from Siemens. I say, forget about Euro NCAP, just aim for the minimal requirements. I don't want to create two holes on the side like the 360 Modena/F430. What I want is a classic grille in the middle. That means we should to use a centre-radiator in the middle under an angle like the Spyker C8 has. A horizontally placed radiator would be even better! Another option is two radiators at the side like the Testarossa used to have.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
ok here it is a new front more like 355, 550 or 575 w/a one large front radiator Image Unavailable, Please Login
You have a very typical style. I've seen that car before.... I like what you've done with the rear end! Better, but please think a bit more innovative. This car is ment for 2010 or later. One thing to keep in mind when drawing: The centre of gravity should ofcourse allways be between the wheels. That also counts for the optical centre of gravity. When drawing a wheelarch over a frontwheel, the highest point should be just above the wheelcentre or a bit behind the centre. See the differences in the sketches below. I think if this car is going to be real competition for the Cayman s it needs to have a greater usability then most Ferraris. Something that could serve as a daily driver, like Ron said I think this car is going to have greater appeal thus the car must be more versatile. Such as having real trunk space and cup holders.
Very well. It may become too much to remember all the discussed items... I suggest you and Ron make a demands-and-wishlist of all these things and add new items to it along the way.
Cup holders, absolutely. Ferrari drivers drink bottled water. For aesthetics, I would give up some trunk space. Especially for a full size spare.
Also could I offer some input on some things, to make such a car appealing. You should also had a free pair of Italians shoes, as I believe anyone who buys a Ferrari get a pair.
and here is my take on it, I used Michiel's renders as a starting point and refined http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/1199/woah4xu.jpg
