I did the Ferrari Challenge Driving Clinic at Infineon last week and I turned the car in yesterday to get it serviced and put on new tires. The dealer just called up and said they recommended replacement of all four fender liners because all the louvers were cracked or broken due to large chunks of rubber getting thrown into them.

Is this a common issue after being on a track? I asked about that and the service tech said that since the driving clinic was being let out in between the Challenge race cars there was a lot more rubber debris on the track than when a sports group has the track all day.

Anyway I was expecting tires and possibly brake pads as wear items, but not the fender liners.

This seems common. The louvers are fairly brittle.

Some people have taken the louver-less fender liners off, attached stainless or aluminum mesh to the back of them, then reinstalled them. Replacing with new liners will only lead to the need to replace them again and again.

Sheesh. I've never seen that personally. What's the tab on those bad boys?

    $1200 + labor (1-2 hours).

I told them to hang on to the old liners, thinking along the lines of the suggestion to cut open the louver areas and replace with mesh or something and then have them to exchange back for the new liners based on activity.

Do you want to send them to us to be fabricated in carbon/Kevlar? They'd be a lot tougher then. We love making "non-cosmetic" parts.

Don't worry about them, leave them as they are. If you replace them they'll be broken within miles....but $1200???? boy am I pleased that I don't have to go to a N.American Ferrari dealer!!!!

    THAT is insane!

Chicken sh*t. Ferrari should replace them free of charge. If you build a car for a race track, build it to withstand normal racetrack wear. If you stuff it in a wall, sure thats your responsibility, consumable parts (brakes, tires, etc) absolutley your resposiblity, but fender liners? I usually have the manufacturers back, but that is BS. I plan on buying a CS soon and I am disapointed to hear about this.
