    Would like to top up the lubricant (needs less than an ounce) in the steering box of my 87' 328. Noted a small leak around the bottom seal. Owners manual calls for BP Energrease FGL (G 4937). Anyone know a compatible lubricant I can use for this purpose (that I can buy at a local parts store)?

    i think BP make a fluid grease more commonly added to constant mesh/staight cut gearboxes but with the right GL rating .will look it up for you tomorrow. regards Tony

    Response from BP was that the BP Energrease FGL is not available in North America???? Called Partsource in Maine and they had no idea either.

    It is a TRW steering rack...I would just do a google search of rebuild houses and ask them what they use/recommend...

    sorry but i had it round the wrong way.(A. it is semi fluid grease/listed as having self sealing and anti leak properties .has a 00 consistentcy).It looks like green chilli dip ,maybe with more olive oil .but its rating is NLG1 not GL1. even so would recommend it.just for the fact it will do everything you want it to do and hey if it were mine I would mix in 1/4 bottle of graphite powder and then add to rack.conventional grease cant and wont move from where its applied.not sure on your rack boots (vented).even too much grease can cause a vacuum on your boots and cause premature failure(1x boot will shrink under vacuum /the other will balloon.Vented boots will cure this.
