Here are some photos taken when the car was first unveiled at Goodwood in June 1995 (my copyright) :- Stirling Moss (with a stick - had fallen off his moped in London); Chris Rea; David Piper, who was going to have a run in it but couldn't get his artificial foot on the pedals.

David: The P-cars (0810 comes to mind) had that outboard clutch, but not the LMs.

Here are one or both of the David Clarke 246 recreations. Taken very late 1970's or 1980. One might be the real car. I think that day Stirling Moss raced one and Surtees raced the LWB car.

The text reads: You are looking at an extremely rare recreation of a 1956 - Ferrari Testa Rossa 410 Sport Spider. ........... This car is true to design @.85 scale.

What does ".85 scale" mean exactly? Does this mean that it is only .85 the size of a real 1956 Testa Rossa? If so, then it is NOT true to design; it is some sort of sub-scale replica thing-a-ma-jig. If so, why was it NOT built to be a 1 to 1 exact size replica? Some sort of legal requirement maybe?
Or is it a replica of one of those V6 powered shortened TRs?

It would be a nice project. But $30,000??? And who are the mystery people in Italy who build these things? You never really hear much about the specific companies or people who create these replicas. Are they back room "mom and pop" type operations?

Good question. There are Van Gogh copies that had to be done at some other than 1/1 scale to make them distinguishable. Maybe the same deal?

 

In the head-on view, the right and left headlight cut-outs look misaligned with respect to one another.

As repros go, I'm glad that a GTE didn't die to make it. Unfortunately a Dino coupe probobly did. Actually, Arlie, did you consider a Dino coupe or spider as a resto project? You could save a neat car that would be a lot of fun and make great noises when you were done for considerably less pain than a Ferrari.

well, it all depends, probably people have seen the fully functional 1/3 scale model of the 312PB. Is that a piece of crap or a beautiful model? An asking price of 30,000 for that one would not surprise many people. Also the models sold during the Bonham auction in Gstaad regularly fetch very high prices.

As long as it is positively indicated that we are talking about a scale model (although 0.85 is not directly a common size) we just can enjoy the result.
If it would have been a 1/1 replica, and built in Italy it might suffer the faith of the ruthless authorities in Italy who recently sent a number of Maserati replicas, but fitted with many original parts, straight to the crushers.

What was the size of the 196S as compared to the 250TR? Is it close to 85%? What we probably have is a 196 replica...

 

Exact, it s a 196 replica but quality is low, but for somebody who have time to work on the car, it s ok may be.

A perfect 100 % 196 is 120 000 Euro with a very high quality

 

Why be so negative?? It's a SCALE MODEL you can put your kid in and drive around the block!! I don't see 30k worth, but what the hay, it's pretty charming. . .

 

Can some of your experts give me some help on the 156 F1 yellow colour.
What we know from old Ferrari mechanics that the car Gendebien drove was painted in Italy and not in Belgium, so it arrived in the yellow colour.
What we also know that Ferrari most probably used their standard yellow colour from 1961 (cellulose paint)
Does anybody know the yellow colour ? Was it Giallo Modena (PPG 4305 ?)

Wow, somehow someone somewhere slayed a Dino 206/246?!?! How?!?!?!

 

I have no idea, but my guess given the economics would be that it would probably come from a Fiat Dino coupe

 

any updates on the project?
when can we expect to see this beauty tearing up the raidillon?
