haha thats around 80k $AUD this annoys me....this car would be well over $130k USD in aust i live in wrong country
Man, that seems like a great price. I wonder what's wrong? If it really has had a belt service, even if the manifolds are original it sounds like a person could make out OK on this one. Since it has 34k miles there is no doubt that any valve guide issues are resolved. I worry about the manifolds and cats, but again for this price you could budget $2k with QV London in the future and since it's a '95 just run test pipes! Does anyone have a free carfax? The VIN is ZFFPR41AXS0101599 I would be curious to know if it's had any reported damage. My wife would kill me for buying another Ferrari right now, but this looks like a deal. - Bill
I agree. Nice car and a good price. the ecarlink site seems to have pretty good prices in general. BT
That ecar link always has amazing cars at great deals..... I would love to be in business like those guys they seem to do well.
So there seem to be many people who would "jump" on this car at this price, and yet I have my 1995 F355 Spider for sale at $75K (on Ferrariads) and I haven't had one single call. Those who think a 30,000 mile Berlinetta is a deal should certainly like my 16,000 mile Red/Tan Spider that has had all the issues sorted out (new cats, Tubi headers, valve work, etc.) for $75K. Have you listed the cars anywhere else? eBay, cars.com, autotrader, Dupont? Your car should sell fast right now, summer is here!
I am surprised. Your car looks great, low milege, and a low price. Someone should surely snap it up soon! BT
Dave, bring the car to Santana Row this Saturday. See http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107659 Put a for sale sign in it
Your car is a deal and I would love to take a look at it if it was not a spider. Especially since you're in my backyard. I thought your reserve was met on ebay? Ray
Thanks guys, I have listed it on EBay, FerrariAds, and Yahoo Autos (did you know that only dealerships can advertise Ferraris on Autotrader?). And yes, kimosabe, It did hit the reserve and sold on EBay. The buyer didn't call me for a couple of days and when I finally got hold of him he told me his wife wouldn't let him go through with it (he didn't talk to her about it first and he already has a 348 and a Carrera and he said she was "busting his balls" over this latest purchase). I will likley put the car back out there, again with a low reserve with the hope of generating some interest, but it appears there are lots of people that bid on F-cars on EBay that they have no intention of buying. I can't imagine why they'd wnat to waste their time in that way...I notice one buyer who has simultaneous bids on every single 355 that comes up, but he never bids over a reserve, regardless of how low. He clearly can't be serious because he could end up owning all of them if his bids were real! And yes, the car is beautiful, it has had everything done to it, and I think I am asking a very fair price. I now have 4 cars vying for space in a 2-car garage and I have another car on order for delivery this Fall. Something has to go by September, so tell your friends!
Dave, I'd like to help you out. I only have 2 cars in my 3-car garage. Hard to sleep knowing a F355 may be taking a beating in the harsh California weather.
Your car looks very nice too. I just think that too many Spiders are for sale. It's weird, but 70% of both eBay and Auto Trade 355 listings are Spiders. It should be 30%. Right now on eBay there are 14 Spiders (70%), 5 Berlinetta's, and 1 GTS. Lately on eBay is seems like 90% of the 355's being listed are Spiders. There are 75 Ferrari 355's listed on Auto Trader and 53 are Spiders (70%). That's an unproportional amount compared to the production numbers. 3,939 GTB (45%) 2,048 GTS 2,663 Spiders (30%) There are three things to help sell a car: 1.) Pricing: Price it fair for the condition/miles/history, but consider the competition. Researching the asking prices won't help much because many dealer owned cars sell for much less than the asking price. I like using eBay because this is a better judge of the real selling prices. Just keep track of ending auction prices for cars that have actually sold, then you'll find out what the real value is. 2.) Marketing: Build a web page describing the car. Be sure to use a lot of pictures that can be clicked on to see a very high resolution version. You can use this page to direct buyers from the media ideas below. At the very minimum list your car on eBay, Auto Trader, here, FML, local print newspaper and online local newspaper. If you don't have any bites, you might try listing it in AutoWeek, Sports Car Market, and Hemings. Be sure the ad is written well. Including the color combo, honest description of the condition (Show car, good cond, needs work, etc.), list any extras like an after-market exhaust or new tires, include the website address, your email, your phone and location. PRICE IS A MUST. Here's an example of a 355 ad that would generate calls: 1995 FERRARI F355 SPIDER red/black, 6-spd, records, no stories, current services done, good cond, HRE wheels, 30k miles, $75,0000 obo. See pictures: www.example-domain.com/355 Phone: (213)555-1000 email: [email protected] 3.) Salesmanship: When you get a caller, you need to be able to make the caller feel comfortable with you and be as accommodating as possible. The more you try to help, the more likely you are to make a sale. Offering to help get a PPI done, offer to pick the buyer up from a local airport so he/she can drive the car home, offer to help load the car on a transporter if they buy it, offer to fax all the documentation, offer as many pictures by email, etc. Being flexible on things like price, PPI costs, delivery and payment can help sell the car. One thing to consider is to go ahead and get a PPI done and ask the dealership if they act as an independent 3rd party to fax the results to any potential buyers. Get anything repaired that they find, or be prepared to discount the car for the flaws. Offering to split shipping can help too. Here's the thing. We are going to have to negotiate on anything we sell. So build in an extra $500 to cover the PPI or shipping help and then you might sell the car closer to what you really want. In other words, spending $500 might help you sell the car with a $1,000 discount instead of a $3,000 discount off of the asking price. Regarding the Spiders, it looks like the asking prices remain high (good thing). So to sell a Spider the pricing needs to be better than the rest, but not so low that you scare people. I think you priced yours right, so maybe you need to market it better. Why are so many Spiders for sale? Can anyone answer that question? - Bill
Pap, as easy as the 348's engine subframe comes out, you'd think that you Aussie 348 Brothers would be getting rich importing 348 pieces, then putting them together and registering them as a domestic clone/kit car made with all Ferrari factory parts. Import the body. Then import the engine sub-frame. Install. Register. Sell. Would that get around your import tax??
FFCobra - great post, you put a lot of time and thought in to your approach. I have no idea why the spiders are selling like they are other than I have witnessed the same thing. Perhaps a lot of 355 spider owners swithing to 360/430 spiders because of spring. Berlinetta guys probably are not effected seasonally - dunno.
I saw the ad, I don't think I will buy anything until the end of summer (I live in Phoenix and will be traveling a lot) but my feedback is that it seems like a decent price but honestly there is lot of info being thrown around about valves and the earlier cars that frankly may be innacurate or even wrong but as a first time buyer the 95's make me blink. On the other hand, I also think that if its a good price I could probably put a few miles on it and only suffer minor depreciation.
The crazy thing is...is that this is really NOT that great of a deal. The N.A.D.A. HIGH RETAIL is only $68,000 and average retail is $63,000. I think it sounds like a good deal because we are so use to seeing 1995 spiders. The spiders actually have a $16,000 higher N.A.D.A value. With 34,000 miles it is one of the higher milage 355's out there. The Berlinetta is has the lowest resale value of the 355 models. So the guy that posted his 355 spider for $75,000 is a better buy... Just food for thought!
Sh*t i dunno mate. I dont think that they are that silly. Surely they would have looked into that and made it impossible. Then again,i dunno. Besides, the US cars are LHD,we are RHD here in AUS. Too much hassle i think bud.
Don't feel bad my 96 spider is on FAds as well and is equally well sorted and has the tubi and I received on call and one email. I also put it in the FML but have not tried eBay yet. Hang in there and good luck with your sale.
I saw your ad awhile back, it seems there are a lot of cars available and not so many buyers. Decided to wait feeling that spring and summer was the stongest sellers season but now I wonder if the 355 is just soft. I don't see the dealers getting anywhere near asking for their cars as Modenas are well within reach of some of the asking prices for 355 spiders.
