Hey everyone, This is a very amusing thread to read... it brings back such memories! Yes, that is my old car indeed... Thanks JL, Chris, Eric, Ernie, etc for chiming in... Here's a little tidbit on the car: - 89 "Challenge" 348 - was converted and raced in the challenge series for at least 3 races by a known driver in FL region by an avid driver/racer - it was very well known in the series as the "Deerslayer" for once having hit a deer during a practice lap in a challenge race... only the windshield had to be replaced - Was originally rosso corsa, raced in giallo yellow, then converted for street use and re-painted rosso corsa and run in club events - The reason the mounting plates don't show is because the side bars had been removed for ease of entry - I purchased the car in 2002, drove and owned it until 2004, when it was accidentally dropped from a tow truck on the 405 fwy in LA - Since I owned the car, I retained the vehicle and sold it to an individual, who since fixed it (replaced the wheels, steering wheel, replaced the head unit, repainted the car, etc)... and re-sold it... it has since exchanged a number of hands of ownership (on ebay and in auctions) - When I owned it, I performed quite a bit of mechanical work on it, including: full-engine out svc, newly re-built transmission, fresh belts, etc... not sure how well it has been maintained since '04 - I enjoyed the car in every way, as many would attest to in So Cal... including numerous track days... the seats don't show up well in the photos, but are truly amazing...Speaking of the seats, they came from the Tommy Hilfiger 355 challenge car (they are factory CF seats - a $10k option at the time!!) - I owned the car at 13,XXX miles and drove it to 21,XXX miles... it was a blast!! And yes, I am a co-founder of Ferrari Driving Club - and NO, we DO NOT rent out cars to ppl... In fact, we have a great group of drivers of enthusiasts who come together for monthly events to drive and enjoy the company of others... we are very fortunate to live in an area with great weather... If anyone here on fchat is seriously considering this car, pls feel free to pm me and I'll provide you with a detailed background... otherwise, I do appreciate everyone here remembering the "story" about my old car... and would appreciate that those that don't know not to jump to unfounded conjectures and conclusions before really hearing the truth!! Thanks! Byron Some pictures of the old ride: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
FNA kept no records on 348 series. I tried that with my car and no luck. Other's on this forum have much more info about the series, particularly which cars ran and by whom. Just a FYI.
Also if you would have looked closely at the title bottom line it says, "Cavallino Motors, Martin, etc......)
If motor and drive train are good and it had all the challenge package, I would think it might bring low to mid $40's for a good track car. In current state mid $30's is not bad price, IMO. If converted back to challenge specs, it might be elligable for Ferrari Historic series?
Challenge kit was $14,000 delte option I think in '94. Would need real racing seats (OMP was the original mannufacturer) , new harness, roll cage (should be able to bolt in to previous mounts), fire system, electric cut off, tow hooks, challenge rims with slicks, and brake ducting if not still on the car. Engine was raced as stock with cats and challenge exhaust. Mods. were allowed to advance timing. Assuming engine and drive train is ok, would leave alone. Of course you would need to repaint yellow with stripe! I have challenge reg. from '94 and '96 if interested.
